The funny thing is that kids aren't really interested in seeing porno. It's not until puberty hits that they start getting those urges, and porno becomes irresistible. And by that time, they'll know plenty of ways to get it that don't involve a game console. And by that age, any responsible parent should have talked with them in a mature, adult way about what pornography is, what real-life sex is, and how the two relate. Any consequence of a failure to do so rests on the parent's shoulders, not society.

Smart people, as a general rule, aren't alarmists. I don't care what the topic is. At any rate, blaming the medium for the message is perhaps the most asinine thing one can do.

I especially loved that news report about how a driver could see your kid in the back of your car with a DS, pull out his DS while driving on the freeway and start sending PictoChat messages to your kid. Just trying to imagine a guy typing in PictoChat while driving at 60 MPH cracked me up.

I'm surprised there aren't articles stating the dangers of letting your kid get a video iPod because then they could download porn by accident and watch it by mistake.

Apple better fix that shit now before it damages my fragile little mind.

I do believe it has wireless network hardware, so in a sense, it can do that, if there is an open wireless point in range.

The wireless configuration is quite tiresome actually, and it's not the sort of thing you could do by accident. Assuming your wireless has some kind of security, you have to enter the key, and there goes any claim it happened 'by itself'.

Again we sat down with her to remind her how she felt when someone hacked into her last site. Her reply was, “But Mom, everyone has one. Besides, that won’t happen to me again.” It’s that kind of “it will never happen to me” attitude that gets our children into trouble. Our daughter is fifteen years old. We are committed to talking with her on a regular basis and have set rules that we both have agreed upon. When we talk it feels like we are talking to a brick wall. She replies with things like, “My site is clean,” or, “ I do not do the bad things that others do on MySpace.” We are constantly confused and want her protected. One good thing that came from our hard hitting conversations is that our daughter knows she can come to us with any problem she is having. She learned we are here for her, and we are.
