The greatest party games?

Post by Qwerty 42 »

If you have friends over, what do you play?

We're rather fond of

Super Smash Bros.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Various weird odds and ends for the Dreamcast a friend has
We used to be heavily into Phantasy Star Online but we realized just how boring that game truly was
We dabble in Dungeons and Dragons
And we have a moratorium on Zelda: Four Swords Adventures (long story)

Please.

Karaoke Revolution and its various sequels clearly win this category.

Honorable mention goes out to Wii Sports.

Guitar Hero (2).

Sometimes Gears of War but that's more of a "oh hay lets co op this thing on insane" rather than a true party type game.

On the Pen and Paper, non-collectible card game and board game front:

Munchkin
Chez Geek (preferably with all expansions)
Cthulhu 500 (try it, its easy and fun)
Zombies (double plus good)
Doom (the boardgame - its a lot of fun dying over and over in Co-op and the new expansion gives DM and CTF play)
A Game of Thrones (I love this game)
ANY CheapAss game (Kill Doctor Lucky and Witch Trial are my two favourites)

Smash Bros and Wii Sports (especially Tennis) are the two I've been playing/seen being played the most lately.
Wii sports especially seems popular at parties, everyone can pick it up and have a good shot at it.

Zombies? Zombies?! Maybe if you have about 4 hours to kill.

Though I must admit, I did have fun blowing up the Sporting Goods store with a molotov cocktail the one time I played. We actually ran out of zombie figurines, so it was an epic battle between me and the other players. I would have the remaining zombies beeline towards the Sporting Goods store (because if I left, I would lose the molotov cocktail bonus), while the rest of them would have zombies run away because I was slaughtering every single one that wandered in.

As for fun party games, Mafia is fun if you have enough people (at least a couple dozen).

Halo 2 is still an overwhelming favorite with my friends, even after all this time. Battle for Middle Earth II is also quite fun, but its kind of a hassle to set up for a lot of people.

The card game Apples to Apples is terrific and simple.

Illuminati, if you have a group that meets regularly---it takes time to learn the rules.

Uno is stupid, but fun. IMHO, the game needs rule modifications to play at its best (i.e. more cut-throat).

Aye. And with my Playstation 2-owning friend, we invariably always play Soul Calibur 3, no matter what. Hint: Nightmare + steel paddle = win.
