amen to that. I have found that gloss coats tend to protect betters, but kill any details in highlighting. As such I use a semigloss first toprotect the figure, then dullcoat to toane thing s down a touch, and allow the details to show.Darwin wrote:Testors Dullcote is your friend.Stormbringer wrote: As for the models themselves, I wouldn't bother with 'ardcoat. As for lighting and taking pics of your minis, I recommend reading up over Here It's Thomas Schadle's* page, has some good simple info on taking pics of mini's.

I use a semi-gloss because most of my miniatures are metals. I've got a lot of Grey Knights, some metal stormtroopers, and a fair number of older figs which are all metal (as well as Warmachine which is an all metal game). So I went with a semi-gloss because the formula is definitely more resistant to chipping, flaking, and rubbing off.Darwin wrote:Testors Dullcote is your friend.Stormbringer wrote: As for the models themselves, I wouldn't bother with 'ardcoat. I find I actually prefer the slightly shinier finish of the semi-gloss for most of my models. It definitely looks good on Grey Knights especially.
Good stuff! I'll need to print out that blue-white fade sheet. One note, You can make a cheap lightbox by using a full-spectrum clip-light or two, and a plastic chest cooler. Yes, this really works, and it's pretty ingenious.Azazal wrote: As for lighting and taking pics of your minis, I recommend reading up over Here It's Thomas Schadle's* page, has some good simple info on taking pics of mini's.

Well, I just had another game at the local store, 1500 points using Dark Angel rules against a Chaos army. It was rather amusing, my army list was really plasma heavy, 4 plasma cannons, 4 plasma guns and a load of plasma pistols.
I managed to get first turn and turbo boosted my attack bike to point blank in front of a large group of Khorne bezerkers, and then had my basic bikes move up the opposite flank in two groups to start laying into the undivided chaos marines along that side of the table. At the same time my heavy weapons opened up on his chaos bikers, landing 4 krak missiles and all the plasma cannons on target and taking it down to half strength in the centre of the army.
My bikers then landed a few good hits on a squad of chaos marines and then charged in to assault them. Thus ended my first turn.
In his turn my opponent failed the blood frenzy roll for his berserkers who promptly jump the attack bike in front of them. Meanwhile his Demon Prince headed down towards the woods where half my heavy weapons were camped out. He was just out of charge range despite fleeting towards me...so he stood in front of my troops and got a nice big helping of hot plasma death.
My attack bike fell in close combat with the khorne berserkers. While my other bikers eventually routed the chaos marines on the other flank and chased them down. The chaos bikers fell to my krak missiles, and that left him with nothing in charge range again. So on his turn he threw down some heavy weapons fire and took out a couple of bolter marines while the Khorne berserkers closed with my lines, ending up just out of charge range, they too got a face full of plasma death and were wiped out completely.
After that there was still enough plasma left to wipe out his other squad of chaos marines. At that point he conceeded the game. Total losses: 3 bolter marines, an attack bike and three bikers

I did a bit of repainting, mostly adding the power effects to the DCCWs. But that lead to taking pictures of miniatures both new, touched up, and old. So I thought I'd post them here.
