My DVD player software is fucked. Help.

Post by Vympel »

I recently got the latest drivers from my video card (Radeon X1950) and the result has been that trying to play DVDs on PowerDVD and Windows Media Player is a total disaster. I tried to put one of my Stargate DVDs on, and I could only hear audio.

Meanwhile, my Nero player still works, but is pixellated and spotty compared to before - on full screen on my 19 inch LCD (1280x1024) the aspect ratio just looks wrong. (also, when I flip the mouse wheel, which in Nero plays with the volume, the image becomes intercut with images from earlier in the piece for split seconds).

Any ideas what's wrong? I need this shit to work perfectly, I watch DVDs on my PC exclusively and like taking screencaps.

As a temp fix, you could install an older set of drivers.

Not much of a fix though, is it? :(

I even updated my version of Power DVD to Ultra - it didn't do anything. I get no image whatsoever on PDVD or WMP, and Nero looks like arse and runs strangely.

No one has any ideas?

Try Media Player Classic before you go for VLC, IMHO. It runs a little smoother, and it plays DVDs excellently for me, even though WMP and WinDVD play really poorly (stuttering non-stop).

You might want to go with the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack), that has a load of codecs and comes with MPC.
