Got Myself a Nintendo DS...
After the mental Christmas rush I went out to buy a Ninento DS, arguably the hottest electronic toy of the season. With it I got three games of varying quality:
Sonic Rush Adventure: Ironically a Sega game on a Nintendo system after a decade+ of intense corporate rivalry, but stil a very good game and somewhat underrated in comparison to other major DS titles. The graphics are comparable or slightly greater than the original Sony Playstation (what happened?!).
The Legend of Zelda: Not really a DS title but actually for the GB Advanced, but still a wise bargin buy and offers bags of retro run from the mid 1980s - tough as old boots though, like most other NES games.
Glory Days 2: It's OK-ish, but seems too needlessly fiddly and repetitive for my liking, not unlike the overrated Cannon Fodder from the mid 1990s. I'll perhaps sell it...
What other GB Advanced and DS games are recommended?

Do you think he was being ironic when he described the DS as 'arguably the hottest electronic toy of the season'? I'm scared.
And Zelda is EASY.
Totally get Ouendan or EBA (or both). If you dig the storybook things, there's plenty of those, and Trauma Centre is a cool puzzle game with 'totally 24' year old nurses. Terrifyingly, the Pokemon games are good and will last longer than most 'fun but done in a weekend' DS games.
Jump Ultimate Stars is surprsingly fun for a Smash Brothers-esque game built around insane manga characters.

Glory Days 2 is awesome. Did you never play Choplifter?
At the very least it will carry me over until someone re-releases the greatest side-scrolling jet combat game ever made. Jetstrike. Yes, I'm linking to The Underdogs, but I am a proud owner of the PC-CD version of Jetstrike. Which has the most intense, cock-rock-midi-with-vocals soundtrack of all time.

Sorry, I sold it for New Super Mario Bros., a good counter part to Sonic Rush Adventure. I've completed half of the 80s Zelda game already, but I'm stuck in the dungeon complex swarming with those blue iron knights and a giant brown blob I cannot really kill (yet, anyway).weemadando wrote:Glory Days 2 is awesome. I've been very pleased with my DS thus far. I've used my train rides to and from work to grind away on FF3, and I'm very much looking forward to FF4 when it comes out in some months. Honestly, the most fun I have is in Pictochat.

I left my batteries on all weekend when I was at a conference and they died by Monday. I need to get some Pokemon in, because when SSBB comes out I'm not getting anything done. Sleep Mode is a wonderful invention though.

Be careful if you get Metroid Prime: Hunters, though; I literally broke the shoulder button on my DS from that game. Luckily, DS has a full year-long warranty, and the repair process was quick and easy.
I would definitely recommend Geometry Wars if you like Asteroid-type stuff, as well as Lunar Knights (vampires, robots and aliens, and it's a Hideo Kojima game. Yes, the same guy who did Metal Gear Solid. But with fewer cutscenes.)
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is a great game, as is Rocket Slime.
Trust me, if you like puns or bizarre games, Rocket Slime is for you. And I haven't played too far in it yet, but Magical Starsign isn't half bad.

The thread linked above mentions a game called
INFINITE FRONTIER: SUPER ROBOT WARS OG SAGA. I would like to add to that a wholehearted recommendation for Super Robot Taisen Original Generation and Original Generation 2 for the GBA. Although I have to admit that OG1's graphics are a little rough. Understandable, though, as the game was made in '02(released here in '06, so it should be relatively easy to find). OG 2 looks much better, however.
SRT OG2 Promo
(Although I also admit to pimping the series so this game could possibly be released, but that's just me. )
I also recommend Metroids Fusion and Zero Mission, also for the GBA.
Also, something that thread failed to mention: about Super Robot Wars W, it must be mentioned that one of the included Mecha Anime series' included in the story is Hundred Beast King Golion, known to most of us western fans as Voltron.

i'd like to get Daimos, Ideon and Combattler V back.
The line-up of SRT W is weak IMHO: apart from Golion, the Getters and GGG;, the rest of the robot are well dull; i really prefer the line up of SRT R or D.
But that's probably just me
ok so for the little story: if you launch SRT W with a GBA SRT: magic you'll get cash and pieces for your robots in W.
Other good games to get:
- Custom Robot EEEEMJEEEEE
- Front Mission the first if you didn't did it on the SNES.
- Contra 4

I've passed many an hour playing Lost in Blue 2. It's probably not for everyone, since it's a game about surviving on a deserted island, but if you're into games where you need to build spears and start fires and trap birds to survive, I highly recommend it.
