Want to go on Jeopardy!?
The online test is coming up on Tuesday, January 29, 30, and 31. See here for details.
(I'm not sure if this is appropriate fodder for this category, or indeed, for this forum, but I figured that there are enough big brains here to warrant an attempt.)

73% of all statistics are made up, including this one.
I'm waiting as fast as I can.

What is inflation, Alex?Superman wrote:Goddamn, I hate that show. In recent times, lots of gameshows have upped the prizes to literally millions of dollars. Not Jeopardy though. Jeopardy is still giving you 200 dollars for the atomic weight of cobalt. And you had better say "what is" before you answer.

Oh my god 200 dollars for answering a question right.Superman wrote:Goddamn, I hate that show. In recent times, lots of gameshows have upped the prizes to literally millions of dollars. Seriously why the fuck should someone get a million dollars for being smarter than a 5th grader? Oh wait no one's even won that show yet. That's America for you.
Get some
Jeopardy doubled all of their question values a couple of years ago. It used to go up to $500 in the first round, $1000 in the second round; now it's $1000 and $2000.Superman wrote:Goddamn, I hate that show. Jeopardy doesn't measure intelligence. Like so many other game shows, Jeopardy only measures someone's ability to store and recollect vast sums of otherwise worthless trivia.LaserRifleofDoom wrote:A direct response to the million-dollar gameshows. Now actually smart people can break into the tens of thousands.

Exactly. I get annoyed with people who insist winning contestants on Jeopardy are "so smart".GrandMasterTerwynn wrote:Jeopardy doesn't measure intelligence. Exactly. A better game show is "Cash Cab" on the Discovery Channel. Actually, that's one of the only game shows I like.Bubble Boy wrote:Exactly.
