The fact is DNF is somebody's pet project and they want it perfect. Their version of perfect. The company makes enough money on other projects that they can start DNF from scratch as many times as they want to and still turn a nice profit.

This is going to be a game for the game designer, not the players. If he was worried about whether this game would be like ET or whether they needed it to keep the company afloat, it would've been released a long time ago.

you have a point, I mean how many years has it been since starcraft and starcraft II? I mean Blizzard is still the most profitable portion of what was formerly Sierra....

If they HAVE actually been constantly developing it (which I seriously doubt), the game itself WILL be less profitable, simply due to remounting costs. DNF is 100% loss so far, and the shooter genre has changed a lot since these guys had a clue.

Is there any real evidence they got anywhere near a releasable product in the previous iterations? Sure they SAID it was nearly finished and just needed art (or whatever), but they're clearly made entirely of high-density bullshit.

It's either a venture capital scam or a Derek Smart-esque sadcase obsession.

OR BOTH.

I'm playing Prey now - grabbed it for $5 on Steam when it was on sale - and it is indeed awesome.

As with any other FPS, there is a shot-gun-like weapon - short effective range, with a nice spread of damage at that range. Except that in Prey, it is a gun that shoots glowing green acid.

I love my splat gun, and it loves me.
