Things I don't get about Liquid Ocelot (no really!)

Post by Vympel »

I've read the MGS database several times and it's just not fucking clear on Liquid Ocelot. Was Liquid's arm really taking over Revolver Ocelot when it was grafted onto him during the Tanker Incident and on Arsenal Gear, or was it Revolver just pretending?

Or did he only pretend after he replaced Liquid's arm with the cybernetic arm? Would this explain why he speaks with Ocelot's voice in MGS4, but he spoke with Liquid's voice when he "took over" Ocelot in MGS2?

Also - Gray Fox only cut off Ocelot's right hand in MGS - yet in MGS2 he had grafted on Liquid's arm seemingly from the elbow. Then in MGS4 he's replaced his entire arm up to the shoulder with a cybernetic implant?

I wonder if it's possible for them to bring out Metal Gear: Portable Ops as for the PS3 (i.e. download it from the PS Store). I've been thinking about getting a PSP for a while (bored on the train while I go to work, so perfect cure) but I'd much rather play it on my big screen. I'm missing a huge chunk of Metal Gear story otherwise.

MGS4 claimed that he just used self-hypnosis and nanomachines to fool the Patriot AIs into thinking that Liquid was taking him over, causing them to focus on fighting Liquid. However, the database says that he just went nuts and thought that Liquid was driving him insane in Snake's presence. Before MGS4, he apparently had it replaced with a prosthetic.

My guess is that both were correct. He did honestly think that the arm was taking him over and thus had it replaced, but then got the idea to fool the Patriot AIs after replacing it.

In MGS2 it really was Liquid's arm posessing Ocelot, as a result of his inherited power from his father (The Sorrow.) When away from Snake's influence, Ocelot's personality reasserted itself, and got the bright idea to trick the Patriots by pretending to totally be Liquid. However, Liquid's soul itself was far too unpredictable, therefore hypnotherapy et al with a goal in mind was the best option of overthrowing the Patriots.

As to the reasoning why each surgery replaces more and more of his arm, it's for proper interfacing as well as to limit complications.

Ocelot's hand was sliced off at the wrist, yes?
Rather than attempt to use what's left of Ocelot's joint as well as use dead or damaged nerve tissue, it is much easier to make a proper surgical amputation to graft the new limb on.

Similarily, for his mechanical arm, we can assume much the same technology as used on Raiden was implemented, thereby having the limb completely removed as well as a strengthening treatment being done to the shoulder in preparation for the required extra speed and power of said artificial limb.
Saying smaller engines are better is like saying you don't want huge muscles because you wouldn't fit through the door. So what? You can bench 500. Fuck doors. - MadCat360
