For those unaware Jutland is the sequel to Storm Eagle Studios' Grand Strategy/Tacti-cool/Nauti-cool ship strategy game "Distant Guns" which was set in the Russo-Japanese war. Being wholly appropriate, the sequel is set in the 1916 campaign of World War 1. The British, German, and even French Fleets can be commanded. The Standard version comes with just scenarios and missions while the Pro Version (Hint: The actual fucking game) has the scenario editor and Grand Strategy campaign. This game is a full on Admiral Simulation. Things like ballistics, armour values, fire director quality, ship maintenance and a host of other shit are modeled and accounted for. 900+ different ships to command in the game.
I just started the download the demo only to find I won't be able to sortie the High Seas Fleet for the next 4 hours! Presumably because SES is only performing the distribution with ONE server and no mirrors! Whoops!

Yeah, I tried it and changing resolution BSODed my Windows install. Yeah, thanks but no thanks. That combined with invasive as hell DRM, is a no no.

You should see the weird justification the lead Developer has for it. He's a talented programmer but he's also fucking crazy. I've heard he'll go into huge shit fits if someone asks why he's so big on Anal Rape DRM.

Norm Koger, the lead programmer, is a nice guy; but he just hooked up with the wrong crowd -- Jim Rose -- the producer -- "Lempereur1" on Gamesquad is the fucking crazy guy

Got any links that explain this for the uninitiated? I could use the LULZ.

Re: "Jutland" Released.
I was going to download this as I haven't played a Jutland game since my Atari ST days, but the thought of DRM has put me off. Just how bad is it.

Re: "Jutland" Released.
The game needs to contact a server every 7 days or it deactivates. Also, the game cannot be modded and files cannot be manually installed. I'm a slut for naval sims, and wasn't around for the good old days of Great Naval Battles and Task Force 1942. So i'm willing to put up with it. It is bullshit though. SES' website is full of pandering ass covering over their DRM as well. Man, these guys are just lucky their only competition is Battlestations Midway.
Best care anywhere.
Re: "Jutland" Released.
Hmm. I was considering getting this game, but that's just put me off it completely. And thats not just because of some anti-DRM bias, when I'm away on work I'm frequently without an internet connection for more than 7 days. So if I want to play some games after I've finished for the day guess what I wouldn't be able to play?CaptHawkeye wrote:The game needs to contact a server every 7 days or it deactivates. Just crack it. Amusingly, this game getting no penetration means it probably won't be cracked directly but there's probably a workaround
