Last Starfigter game
Long forgotten, the movie The Last Starfighter was suppose to have a videogame tie in that never came around. The "cabinet" (seen above) was viewed as too costly to produce and sell for a profit, so it was scrapped. Apparently, the cabinet prop used in the film was destroyed over time but someone was able to purchase the new one made for the documentary shown on the DVD (hosted by Lance Guest!)
Apparently, theres now a download of the long missing game. I found a diagnostic/config menu by hitting zero. The 5 key inserts a coin, and spacebar (fire) gets you right into the game. You can use a combination of the arrow keys and the mouse to get a two-joystick feel.

Evil will always triumph over good, because good, is dumb
Re: GREETINGS STARFIGHTER
I remember seeing the movie when I was a kid; it was out before I was born, but my parents rented it. I think I'll try downloading the game and trying it out. When I read the title of this thread, I was like, huh, what's this, and then to see that again, well, I can say something in my mind clicked.
"Oh SHIT!" generally means I fucked up.

Re: GREETINGS STARFIGHTER
I watched this on the telly when I was a kid in the 80's, and I mean maybe just a couple of years after it was in the cinemas (yah, I'm THAT old, heh ). This post sparked fond memories, indeed.
For the younger lads, this is The Last Starfigter. And it looked like this (at the time of expensive "turbo" 8MHz PC processors with 32 Mb RAM, pioneering CG special effects).
This one quote I've always remembered, as the ultimate dignified course of action for a villainous-would-be-star-emperor's admiral, when all is inevitably lost:

Lord Kril: Damage report!
Kodan Officer: Guidance system out. Auxiliary steering out.
Lord Kril: Divert! Divert!
Kodan Officer: She won't answer the helm! We're locked into the moon's gravitational pull! What do we do?... What DO WE DO?
*Lord Kril's eyepiece swinging over left eye*
Lord Kril: We die.

"That is for the Rylans to decide, and not a dangerous and ignorant child such as yourself!"
"And yet it is this child who caught your master spy!"
That movie was truly full of gold from one end to the other. I'm gonna go home tonight and watch the dvd.
And that game is wild!

Perhaps this is just me being paranoid, but why exactly is there a direct link to the exe in that one image file? That sets off all kinds of red flags in my mind.

Re: Last Starfigter game
Because Robo Jeses thought it'd be clever to link to the game download by making the image a hotlink. Use the link at the bottom of the post if you don't trust it.General Zod wrote:Perhaps this is just me being paranoid, but why exactly is there a direct link to the exe in that one image file? I don't know if the rest of the site it legit, though I do remember the game - IIRC it's been on the web for a while, and it's a fanmade reconstruction, not some supposedly "lost" original.

Sweet. The first few levels are pretty easy, but I haven't gotten past the command ship yet. So far it looks like lasers and particle beams are roughly equivalent, but lasers recharge faster. Photon bolts travel too slowly to be useful, except at point blank range. They seem most useful for the target practice level.

Yeah, I was boggling at that - that looked pretty advanced for the time when the movie came out.Bounty wrote:I don't know if the rest of the site it legit, though I do remember the game - IIRC it's been on the web for a while, and it's a fanmade reconstruction, not some supposedly "lost" original.

Re: Last Starfigter game
Looks cool, I'll have to try it.
I still remember the Last Starfighter game I have on my Atari PC. That was pretty sweet.
You had to
fighter Kodan Squadrons that had broken through the frontier. This included space and orbital battles against Fighters and Command ships (of various colors/damage totals).
Going to the Frontier and blowing up those big ships they used to disrupt the Frontier.
Fighting Kodan squadrons beyond the frontier, including in there own star system (space battles). There, you also had to fight the Frontier-Destroyer ships, and those things are a pain to hit.
You also had to go into orbit around the various Kodan worlds, and while fighting off there defense fighters, destroy every one of their cities with orbital bombardment. Destroying every Kodan squadron and city was the only way to defeat them.
Man, someone should update that. That would be AWESOME in a modern game engine......

I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.
It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.
