Lost my Office product key
I know this is really stupid, but I can promise you I have one; I just can't seem to find it.
Does anybody know of a way I could either recover it or get around the need for it?

Try this. It worked for me when I couldn't find my Win2k product key.

Re: Lost my Office product key
Alright, thanks Chocula. I'll give that a shot.
Zod, thanks, but the problem is that the working copy of office is installed on a machine that is presently nonfunctional. The machine I'm using now came with office 2007 pre-installed on it as a trial, and I just used that. Unfortunately, I can't find the key code I used to activate the old copy.
I do have access to the hard disk from the old machine, though, so I'll see if I can run that magic jellybean stuff and get it out of there.

You could just swap the primary hard disks if you have the drive from the old machine still.Ryan Thunder wrote:Alright, thanks Chocula. I'll give that a shot.

At least on the one I have infront of me, it shows the product ID (distinct from the Product Key).General Zod wrote:If it's already installed and activated, you can find the product key in the "About" dialog box.

They're laptops, and they're running different OS's. I'd rather not risk swapping them. I have a connector that lets me plug the hard drive into a USB port, though, so I was gonna use the Jellybeans program on that.General Zod wrote:You could just swap the primary hard disks if you have the drive from the old machine still.Ryan Thunder wrote:Alright, thanks Chocula. Jellybean requires it to be running on the OS that had Office installed. It doesn't work if you connect a hard drive that had office installed on it.Ryan Thunder wrote:They're laptops, and they're running different OS's. I'd rather not risk swapping them. So long as the hard drive connections are the same swapping the hdd shouldn't be a problem. Although depending on the hardware configuration of the laptops some things might not display properly (video drivers, etc.)Ryan Thunder wrote: They're laptops, and they're running different OS's. You can access the registry hives on the old hard drive with Magic Jellybean. After you've got the other drive connected, open Magic Jellybean, then click Tools->Load Hive. Select the Windows folder on the other drive, then click OK. You should be in business then.
