Recommend a game (with conditions).

Post by weemadando »

OK, I want a game where I can just go nuts and wreck some shit Crank style. I'd play The Warriors again, but I'm a bit sick of it. Would Saints Row 2 allow me to just go hog-fucking-wild and rampage about like Chev Chelios with an hour to live? Or is there another game out there that could adequately fulfil this desire?

Conditions:
Must be on 360 or PC.
Should have a hand-to-hand/brawler/fisticuffs component.
Must not be a JRPG.

Dead Rising, for the 360.

It's a largely melee based Zombie survival game, which is exactly what it sounds like. Seriously it's hard as fuck, it will RAEP U, but it's also fun as Hell to take a sledgehammer or a butcher knife to a mall full of zombies. Plus it's a sandbox game.

Thats all i can think of, really. But then i usually play FPSes more.

Ninja Gaiden 2 is the only thing that comes to mind right now. Maybe Devil May Cry 4?

Yeah Saints Row 2 would. In fact the level of freedom Saints Row 2 offers is insane. It also keeps tract of your little shenanigans like from how many people you run over to how many times you run around naked.

[quote="18-Till-I-Die"]Saints 2 is the shit. It's none of that GTA4 silliness; after a brief into questline it's totally open-world, all everything available, full map open, heaps of 'activities' and 'diversions' to do. AND you can play the whole thing in coop! :D IT HAS A PIMP CANE THAT IS ALSO A SHOTGUN. Everything about it is 'more fun' than GTA4, from the far superior clothing/wardrobe system to the garage system (ie, you don't constantly lose cars, can hot up a car and simply pay to replace from a menu, all available from all houses, can unlock a guy that beams the car down from the Freedom Star, etc). I actually own this game, because it's a fucking riot. I owe Chardok bigtime for encouraging me to play it.

If someone could tell me how to do the flashing in Saints 2 I'd be pretty happy.

Oh and the hand-to-hand thingo has capsicum spray and tasers. HILARITY.

EDIT - oh dear I'm retarded :)

Saints Row 2 is so good that even Yahtzee liked it.

I've heard good things about Mercenaries 2, for random mindless violence fun?

Unfortunately I own neither of these games yet, due to a backlog of games I've bought but not had time to play (just finished the Orange Box and Mass Effect though, making progress...).

Don't play through backlogs, Starglider; your list can be pruned as games age by increased information. It's just not worth playing the bad ones.

Using Yahtzee's intentional trolling as a reference is worthless, however. The man's life mission is to rile fanboys. :)

I've got Penumbra: Black Plague on backlog. From the little bit of reading I've done on the game I would have to say it's not too combat oriented and when it is you aren't going to be using any guns. As a suggestion for an action game it's actually quite poor, because it's not an action game, but on the other hand maybe you should support a developer that wasn't making a generic horror/action shooter. :P

There are a lot of games that at least a melee component but why not try a fighting game? Or Oblivion with a hand-to-hand character? Come to think of it since Saints Row 2 has been mentioned, and considering what I heard about it, I'm not sure if any other game could really fit your criteria as well.

Go into wardrobe, then the outfits bit and select remove all current clothing. You may now enjoy waving your pixelated cock at old ladies and getting maced for it.

And yea, I'd recommend Saints Row 2 any day, it's far better than GTA4, sure the graphics aren't as great and it can freeze up rarely, and the AI isn't exactly the best, but it's still loads of fun. I just finished Saints Row 2 for the most part, about 80% complete, and there's still tons of stuff to do, not to mention coop.

"Crackdown" for 360 is pretty much GTA with any story elements cut out and you playing the cops. You could probably pick it up for 20 bucks these days.

The brawling portion is very limited (one button), but it is amusing at higher levels to punt a gang member 300 feet with a flying kick. Also, there's a few free downloadable plug-ins to activate some cheats and other extras.

IIRC if you get the (Flasher) Trenchcoat, you should be able to go flashing if you've got nothing under it. If you're just running naked, that's streaking. Which is also tallied.

Yeah, SR2 is great. On co-op, myself and a friend got the police to lv.5, ran to the airport and picked up our machine-gun armed, circus painted biplanes to duel with the attack choppers. That was fun, until they realised they had homing rockets and we realised the ATC tower was a lot taller than we thought.

According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

Yes, Saints Row 2 definitely qualifies. GTA4 is technically a better game, graphically at least, but SR2 is just damned fun.

Cool, thanks. I'd tried removing all clothing items manually, which doesn't work at all. I'll try it out tonight :D

Oh, and Vanas is right, I just tried, if you remove all clothing and then put the Flasher Coast on from Lets Pretend then that's flashing, with nothing on it's streaking. I didn't know you could do the flashing thing too, good to know there's more than one way to get your junk out in public and get rewarded for it.

Yeah I got the coat for flashing but I couldn't work out how to be more naked than underwear, which obviously doesn't work. :)

I'll have to agree with Crackdown. For me, at least, it inevitably turned into me becoming an unstoppable killing machine destroying everything in my path, [strike]including[/strike] especially civilians.

Also: I'll have to tell my brother about the SR2 love going on here; he's a QA tester for Volition and has been working on it since last February.

Crackdown is sadly no fun after you've finished it, which is very very easy. Saints remains fun afterward (that said I never tried Crackdown multi).

SR2 is a primitive, simplistic game that lacks polish... and succeeds at almost everything it does. If every game that looked like a ps2 game on 360 was that successful I'd own a lot more games. :)

Crackdown, once you put in Keys to the City and become God, is a good time killer and stress releif game. It's fun to run around hurling an infinite number of RPGs at civilians from rooftops, leaping hither and yon across miles of city like the Incredible Hulk, immune to all but the most sustained assaults, annihilating whole districts with reckless abandon...

Well it's fun for me anyway.
