Vista reads my DVD ROM drive as an A Floppy drive
Anyone know why this would happen? I don't even have an A drive.

Re: Vista reads my DVD ROM drive as an A Floppy drive
Is it literally reading it as a floppy drive (labelled "Floppy Disk Drive" in My Computer), or is it just using drive letter A?

It's reading it as a floppy drive. What you said. Not just the letter A.

That is really bizarre. What I'd try is to open the Device Manager in the Control Panel, then check under both "DVD/CD-ROM drives" and "Floppy disk drives" for the drive in question, right-click on it, click Uninstall, then restart your computer. If it's just some kind of driver mishap, I'd think that would fix it.

Re: Vista reads my DVD ROM drive as an A Floppy drive
Is it actually reading the DVD drive as the floppy, or is it just a phantom floppy? I have that issue with my computer every so often, and it's just an annoyance. In either case, I think Executor's solution should work.
Re: Vista reads my DVD ROM drive as an A Floppy drive
It's not a phantom. Vista really thinks that it's a floppy A drive. I've also disabled the A drive in the BIOS, but it's still doing it.
I tried exe's solution, and the device manager is listing it the ROM drive as "HL DT ST DVD-RAM GSA-HS4L ATA Device." It's also reading a "Floppy Disk Drive" and "Floppy Disk Controller." Should I just uninstall everything that refers to a floppy drive?

Re: Vista reads my DVD ROM drive as an A Floppy drive
Might be a driver issue. In device manager, under DVD/CDROM drives, find the device - probably the one you quoted there - and rightclick it and open its properties. Go to Driver and select Driver Details. If it is using a floppy disk driver, it will show up there. You can change the driver using the Update Drivers button in the Driver tab and using the manual option.

Did you disable the drive or the controller in the BIOS? A lot of my machines think there is a floppy drive cause the controller is still enabled, even if the drive itself is set to disabled in the BIOS.
