Good/Free Piano Keyboard Software?

Post by StarshipTitanic »

I'd like a program that lets me play a piano on my computer. I've Googled a bit but have only turned up some (crappy) Flash programs on the Internet. What I'd like is something downloadable with the ability to use my keyboard to play rather than poking keys with my mouse.

EDIT: Free software!

Have you checked a music store?

The best of keyboard for this would, of course, be a piano style keyboard, not a QWERTY keyboard. I am not directly familiar with piano teaching software (I learned piano 40 years ago, the concept of "computer-assisted piano lessons" didn't even exist) but I know it's out there.

doesn't work... no sound comes out, and there is no GUI, just a white rectangular window.

You could always buy one of these if you really wanted to bite the bullet

Out of curiosity Destructionator, what did you write that in? I've never worked with MIDI, I'm guessing there have to be a whole slew of libraries for it around, probably a zillion for C and its extended family, it might be fun to play with it for a while...

Thats the Gui. Make sure your MIDI device is set up properly and all that jaz, and that you have the white window active (click on it).
