monitor display problem

Post by Hawkwings »

So this morning, I'm trawling SDN and having a fairly normal time of it. When suddenly, my display goes all strange on me. Here are the symptoms:

Only the upper left quarter of the screen is shown.
The top half inch or so of the screen displays normally, then the rest of the picture is concaved inwards, with noticeable black line spacing between the lines of properly displayed images.
The monitor's own menu and settings appear on a part of the screen that is not displayed, so I can't really use the settings.
The monitor's factory reset and auto-sizing feature do not change much.

For reference, here is my monitor: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model- ... l=GDM500PS

I suspect a hardware problem with the monitor itself, but I would be very happy if one of you fine folk can tell me "No you idiot, obviously this part is wrong!"

Oh, and also, I'm connecting my monitor to my computer with an adapter, converting the old 14-pin connector to the new one with the white block for pins and the cross at the end. My new computer doesn't have a port for the old style of monitor cable.

Replace the monitor. Monitors are cheap now.
