Non-CRT default PnP monitor .inf?

Post by Stark »

I've been annoyed for a while at the apparent disappearance of the image scaling settings from the Nvidia controls... but I've decided it's actually because Windows can't identify my TV, and the 'default Plug and play monitor' has the 'is a CRT' attribute. Thus, the LCD scaling settings in the Nvidia settings are hidden.

There are no monitor drivers for my TV available, but I imagine it doesn't really matter which ones I use. Is there an easy way to change what type of monitor Vista thinks I have? The 'digital flat panel' drivers are all CRTs too, apparently.

Some poking around the nvidia forums suggests that it's the 'connection' field in the nvidia settings I need to change somehow; people have had problem using HDMI and need to hack monitor.infs. However, I'm just using a bog-standard RGB plug; the connection is thus listed as 'VGA - PC Display' and doesn't give me any of the HDTV options, or the LCD scaling options. I have no idea how to cook my own 'this is an LCD TV' monitor inf. :)

What's the make and model of your TV? I may be able to whip something up for you, I already had to hack the drivers for my BenQ to turn off scaling with HDMI, since only TVs use HDMI *I'm a smarmy asshole*?

It's a pretty standard 1080 TV; anything that's 1080 native should work. It's been suggested, however, that the scaling options have been hidden because I'm using a basic RGB cable; the TV has a VGA plug, HDMI, and AV stuff. I've had to convert at the PC end and use an old cable, and that might be why it identifies as 'totally old'. Sigh.
