God of War 1 and 2 coming to PS3

Reworked versions of God of War and God of War II, featuring smoother graphics running at a faster frame rate. hits stores this holiday on a single Blu-ray disc, Sony Computer Entertainment announced this morning.

God of War Collection will feature both Playstation 3 games running at 1280 by 720 resolution and 60 frames per second. The collection, which will cost $US40, will also include trophy support for the games.

“We are excited today to announce God of War Collection,” said Scott Rohde, vice president, Worldwide Studios America. “Our fans spoke and we listened; thanks to our partnership with Bluepoint Games, fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic God of War and God of War II saga in stunning 720p on PS3. This Blu-ray Disc compilation brings Kratos to PS3 even earlier than expected.”

The collection comes just months before God of War III is scheduled to hit stores on March 2010 for the Playstation 3.

The idea of a Blu-ray collection of the two PS2 games, which sell used for about $US35 total at Gamestop, first came to light in April when a survey leaked about the notion.

I've been waiting for this for ages. What a capital idea. Marketing ploy + fan service = critical mass of awesome.

Ehhh, while that motive may very well be so, at least there's enough going on here to justify the rerelease, and the pricing IS for a same-disc duology with updated graphics. I wonder what the trophies here will be?

Are you kidding? You seriously think removing backwards compatibility from the PS3 was part of a grand conspiracy to sell old games as new, as opposed to a cost cutting measure? I mean really, the 60GB, backwards compatible PS3 has been off the market for ages, and they've not done this until now. It's just an inane idea.

From a cost point of view, removing backwards compatibility was unfortunate but made sense to them - not enough people are buying PS3s to play PS2 games to justify it.

It certainly didn't help that most people weren't willing to shell out on a $400+ console with a limited library selection. As much as the PS2 has managed to outsell the PS3 you think that would have been a hint to Sony.

monoprice.com for me. But yeah the Wifi adapter @ $100 is pure robbery although I've read online that some non-Microsoft ones work too.
