decent PSP imports?

Post by Darksider »

I've decided to get a PSP with whatever money/gift cards I get for christmas, and i've decided to take advantage of it's lack of region encoding. What are some decent PSP games not ported to the west? One I was interested in is Macross Ace Frontier, but I don't know if that's still available. Also, i've heard rumors that they've released Gundam games in Japan that don't suck, so that's piqued my interest slightly. i'm primarily looking for action oriented games with controls that are easy to pick up, since I don't read Kanji and can only understand a (very) small amount of spoken Japanese, so the story will mostly be lost on me. also, what's a decent place to get import games at a decent price?

From my experience with Japanese language mecha games is that they're largely pretty intuitive with a little trial and error. GnGNP and Macross Ace Frontier are both straightforward games. Amsuingly, Bandai were so aware of the amount of Western imports they would get for PS3 Gundam game Battlefield Record U.C. 0081 that they actually released a sheet with all the controls explained in English 9as well as directions for joining online matches) that came with a number of versions of the game.

That's a no, by the way. :)

Is that a pure fighting game, or does it have a mission mode? the last vs. game I played was a pure fighting game (Gundam vs. zeta gundam), but I know that some of the vs. have mission modes (federation vs. zeon)

I think NEXT PLUS has some kind of mission mode, because it has an absolute shitload of bosses.

EDIT: actually, this might just be an arcade type business more than actual missions, now that I think about it.

There's an updated version called Macross Ultimate Frontier which came out recently. Should be available from the usual sources.

oh shite. Um, this is the first time i've ever ordered imported games. Do I need to clear this shit with customs or something? I ordered three games from play-asia, and it said that the cost didn't include tariffs and taxes. Should I be expecting an angry phone call from a customs official?

Australia's customs office is anal as all get out, but I've never had any problems buying shit off Play-Asia.

sorry for the necro.

I was going to make a new thread for this, but it just doesn't seem worth it.

I ordered three games off of Play-asia, and now I need to find some better translation guides for them. my usual resource for game guides is gameFAQs, but it's coming up short on certain things. does anyone know a good site for translations of japanese games?

Have you tried GameFaqs? They usually at least translate menus.

Gundam Battle Universe is awesome as well if you're a UC Gundam fan. Everything from 0079 - 0093 plus a few bonuses wrapped in good gameplay, though GvG Next is the superior game mechanics-wise.

That's the Asian version, mine came with the English and Chinese translation sheet. They sell it here through official channels, so it kind of obliged them to do something about the language problems.
