Spam in the Wiki

Post by Ted C »

I'm starting to see new accounts show up on the wiki that post links to things like research papers sites. I figure their bots, and I undo their changes and block the accounts. I was just wondering if anyone knows of any updates to the wiki software that we should be looking at using to try to block this kind of activity in advance.
"This is supposed to be a happy occasion... Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who."
-- The King of Swamp Castle, Monty Python and the Holy Grail

"Nothing of consequence happened today. " -- Diary of King George III, July 4, 1776

"This is not bad; this is a conspiracy to remove happiness from existence. It seeks to wrap its hedgehog hand around the still beating heart of the personification of good and squeeze until it is stilled."
-- Chuck Sonnenburg on Voyager's "Elogium"

Use mass blacklisting

Alternately, you can take care of most of them by checking for an open port 80 on registration. Make such people contact you to get an account.
