Recommend a zip/rar compatible archiver for OS X

Post by Tolya »

I need something for OS X that would let me compress files into parts - I have an 7GB file at work and I need to get it home - and since I dont have dual layered discs here, I need to break it into parts. Trouble is I cant find an option for it in the default archiver and StuffIt works so slow that I want to chew on my own eye pupils.

Any suggestions? Winrar for os x only has a command line interface and its been ages since I used that and I forgot all of it.

No pretty GUI solution comes to mind, but creating multiple volume archives is not difficult with WinRAR command line, assuming the OS X version supports all the same options. This manual page tells you pretty much everything you need to know:

Other commands and switches are also thoroughly explained with examples.

Thanks, that solution scares the crap out of me since it's been ages since I handled an os x command line. But I'll give it a shot.

You could try this or something else you find by googling "rar utility mac" (without the quote marks).
