Recommend a Realistic Space Station Sim?
Tread title says most of it. I'm looking for a realistic space station sim game. I enjoyed Startopia but I'd like to try something a little more down to earth. Played a game many years ago that let you build the ISS or use any of the ISS modules to build a station, which was quite a lot of fun. Open source is a +, modable is a ++.
Thanks in advance.
(P.S. if a mod thinks this is better suited to testing, move away)

Have you considered Orbiter? It isn't open source, but it is free and is supposedly rather easy to make add-ons for (I've never made any, but considering the vast quantity of original add-on material available, including some that contain features not found in the original sim...). Although it's a general spaceflight sim rather than specifically focused on stations, station building is quite possible and is in fact included in one of the default scenarios, where you pilot a small space tug and can assemble a collection of modules into a variety of shapes.

Orbiter is a lot of fun, but it is strictly a flight sim. As far as I know no one has developed an add-on that includes resource managment or other features essential to the running of a space station.Ma Deuce wrote:Have you considered Orbiter? I found this, but it is kinda obtuse and non-intuitive.

A bit of googling found this: http://www.hyperkat.com/colonyets.html
Either way, there is a demo. Anyone can decide for themselves.
Really? I found it fairly interesting and not too complicated.I found this, but it is kinda obtuse and non-intuitive.

I believe the game you are looking for is Space Station Simulator by Vision Videogames.
Re: Recommend a Realistic Space Station Sim?
Once I figured out what all the symbols meant and that I could launch more than one component at a time it was a lot easier. Bought it, thinking perhaps there would be more after the demo besides completing the ISS, but there isn't. I topped out at 4 astronauts even though I should have been able to house at least 12.Zixinus wrote:A bit of googling found this: http://www.hyperkat.com/colonyets.html

Mars Colony was quite cool, but it'll take me forever to do anything there all by myself. It is quite realistic though.
ShortHike looks perfect, but it is abbandonware and I can't find a full version anywhere.

I'm the designer of SpaceStationSim. If you would like to know how we developed it, or what it's like working with NASA, let me know.

Well hi. Fancy seeing you here. Did you watch your site's traffic and noted significant activity coming from here?Bill Mueller wrote:I'm the designer of SpaceStationSim. If you would like to know how we developed it, or what it's like working with NASA, let me know.

If you are already here, I'd like to ask: do you guys ship to Europe? Namely Hungary? Because I liked the demo but I would be more comfortable with a digital-only copy.

It's a very well put together game. great job. Wish there had been something like this when I was in school.Bill Mueller wrote:I'm the designer of SpaceStationSim. If you would like to know how we developed it, or what it's like working with NASA, let me know.

Is there a hard cap on the number of astronauts? I added a second soyuz module, and the CRV and that should have given me a capacity of 12, but no matter how many berths I added I never got above four.
I too would love to see a digital version of the game, I'm sure it would save you guys money in manufacturing and shipping. Any plans for future expansion?
