You mean like they got all the other ones right?

Are they still insisting on their asinine 'golden triangle', which is at the base of the entire shitty weapon balancing Bungie has?

Nothing. Learn to read.

The insistence of 'balancing' three totally different things is stupid. You can have all kinds of combat in a game without jimmying it around so that they're all equally 'powerful' all the time. I've heard the nades in Reach are actually not fucking shit anymore (but you're reduce to 2 for... scifi) so I'm interested to hear if they've screwed up everything else more.

I mean, every game has nades and guns, some have artillery, emplaced weapons, melee of various kinds, etc. Only Bungie are stupid enough to try and make the focus on these elements equal without making them equally interesting.

It's particularly amusing since people get cross about the knife being so powerful in MW2.

I was wrong about the grenade numbers. Either that or it changed. Though due to the bitching of their forum population, they're tuning the grenades' lethality down a bit more. Again.

Which is funny because grenades were powerful in the best halo game.

Yep, and I see the sword and the hammer have the teleport across the room ignoring gunfire and kill you lunge ability back now too. And there is an armor ability that makes you run really fast, and the guns are deliberately designed to take longer to kill you, which means.......DOGFUCKER SYNDROME! The only shooters I've played that did melee combat right was Unreal Championship II and the first Halo.

Grenades are indeed going to be nerfed, but hopefully they leave the physics alone so I can control where they land at least. That particular change downgraded my expectations from "buy" to "rent" when it comes out. I've already played Halo 2, and I'm not doing it again.

The issue they seemed to be exploring was on the invasion map on the first tier (there are 3 tiers, or stages you have to complete to win as the Elites, and a separate timer for each, so all the Spartans have to do is run out the clock) where the Spartans start on high ground, and the Elites start across an open field with scattered cover. The thing to do was on your first spawn as a Spartan was to choose the scope class and use it to pick off the Elites as they ran toward you.

In the games I played the other night, the Elites had two starting classes (Basic & Stealth) while the Spartans could only spawn as the Basic, but could pick up a few Scope rifles from the ground. That gave the smart Elites time to get to cover and get up to your position where they have an advantage (they can jump farther, higher, and move a little faster)

It seemed less about balancing overall play and more about moving the game towards a move exciting stage. Some of the weapons (the Focus Rifle for instance) can be real game-breakers.

The Focus Rifle is definitely not a weapon that just anyone can use effectively - it takes almost 3 seconds of focused fire to take a fully-shielded target down. It's a weapon best used as support, in concert with team members.
