Good mods for Oblivian

Post by Samuel »

I got the game of the year edition off of steam. Does anyone have anyone know if they fixed the leveling system and, if not, what mods help fix and polish the game?

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul.

It is what is says it is: a complete overhaul of the game. Retools the leveling system, tweaks the game mechanics and adds a huge amount of content to the game. It is the Oblivion mod.

FCOM! is the Oblivion mod but they won't move the damn thing out of Beta (They are at 0.999935 because they don't want to go 1.0) which is Oscuro's gameplay changes. Margs Monster additions, Warcry's equipment rebalancing and a shit ton more.

Playing with Oscuro's is a much different game, playing with FCOM plus Unique Landscapes is a brand new game which happens to run off the Oblivion Engine.

FCOM (Out of date check the forum for latest version)

I'll second Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. A word of warning if you try it (or FCOM which I believe is worse for this) be wary of sticking your nose in every little interesting looking hole. Your apt to lose it, and your head, if you're not careful. I don't know if its ever been dealt with, but the Siege of Kvatch part of the main quest is an utter bitch to do at higher levels (15+) in vanilla Oblivion due to scaling enemies. I don't believe they were ever able to change that aspect with OOO, I think it might have had something to do with the scripting involved. I know they largely killed the leveling enemies with OOO, except for "boss" types. Basically, regular bandits will always be within the same level range (ie they get easier as you get stronger), while the bandit leader will be around your level. The only other real important thing to note is to make sure to check out TweakGuides Oblvion article (really check his guides for all Bethesda games), as the Gamebryo engine version that they use really benefits from tweaking the .ini file beyond the ingame options.

I really should fire up Oblivion again myself one of these days.

There are a few growth balance mods, but my personal favourite is Oblivion XP.

Basically it turns the levelling system into something more remeniscent of Fallout 3, with exp gained for kills and quests and not using the same skill over and over.
