I didn't have any problems assembling anything; you get aaaaaages between waves. You can dismantle and reassemble especially if you're punting the other way.

The game got boring before it got hard, but it's a nice idea.

Boring before hard? Not sure how you manage that.
I find it hard because no matter how many guards I put around my guns they still get picked off bit by bit.

My general strategy was 'don't get hit'. :) Are there any odd-angle pieces? I didn't get very far.

Unfortunately not in the free version. Which color did you get to? It goes up in power and difficulty as your ship gets higher color pieces, usually its:
Green
Yellow
Red
Purple
Blue
Dark Blue
White.

Purple is the farthest I have ever got, but its hard to stay there because everyone else at that point can easily kill you. A single "Purple" gun for instance can annihilate a Yellow ship in 2 or 3 hits.

Shit, I got to red. It's a shame there aren't more odd-shaped pieces, because it'd make it more interesting.

There is evidently more in the payed game... But yeah, using only squares and rectangles is not the best in terms of creativity. In terms of function they do work of course. mostly people build "Death sticks" basically long easily spin-able ships with guns all along them. usually i go for a "C' ship with several banks of engines. basically something like this:

*****---*-*-*
---****-*-*-*
---*O********
---****-*-*-*
*****---*-*-*

The "C" parts is where the guns go and then used to scoop up parts for later, and the back end allows for banks of engines to stack up.

I tried that game but found it severely lacking, especially compared to the one in the OP.
The worst part was not the lack of creativity but the constant complaining reminder that this is just a raped version that can be upgraded. And the constant cries to pay them got me so angry at times that all I wanted to do is rip out the monitor and throw it out of the window.

This new game has no such idiocy.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

Guilty as charged.

Honestly, I don't mind paying for stuff. But I hate the whole concept they are using.
If he wants to sell it, fine. Show me the bill, let me pay and be done with it.
If he wants to give it for free. Also fine. I won't complain.

But for crying out loud, make up your mind man!

Know what I mean?

If you don't mind paying for things, then pay for it. Then it won't yell at you.

The concept is called 'trial'. As in, you try it, then if you like the concept, you pay for the full version. The fact that the trial is fairly playable doesn't negate the fact that it is a promotional product, not a product.
But for crying out loud, make up your mind man!
He did. He intentionally put out a hampered trial version in the hopes that a taste of the concept would convince you to pay for the actual finished and complete product. In fact, it could be said that in an effort to promote his product over more hyped competitors, he actually gave you MORE of a free sample than most games, which expect you to buy based on screenshots and text descriptions alone. Sometimes such is necessary to promote interest in a virgin franchise or idea.

You know, it's not really my business or anything, but you should really try focussing on issues that don't make you look narrow-sighted and stupid.
