Try Sledge's Shotgun with the Phoenix ability (Lillith.) You occasionally don't use ammo when firing. Sledge's shotgun fires until it's empty. With level 5 phoenix you have a machine gun.

Actually the more I think back on it, the better my retrospective on Borderlands gets, because NOW I also recall this absurd sniper pistol I used to plink enemies off with headshots on the first playthru. It was hi-larious because I was mowing down gus at way beyond their range with this relatively common (like, blue or maybe green) pistol with some insane lightning ammo and a scope. It was like a glitch or something like x4 lightning damage plus like 100 damage plus ammo regeneration plus a scope or something, I'm sure the designers didn't intend for that to fall into your hands on a normal scavage-for-loot drop but it like glitched out and some random Bandit had it on him.

My girlfriend, having rarely ever played an FPS, as literally LOL'ing at the idea of taking down Crimson Lance elite special forces with single shots from beyond the effective range of their fire with an unlimited ammo.
