"ForceLord loses his virginity"

"Bwaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!"
Not again.. Not another alarm. We had to be called in because our dogs and militia couldn't finish flesh balls. Flesh BALLS! Inert blobs of moving flesh. Disgusting.
And we lost a dog to it too.

Then it was more zombie crundles.Evil twisted freaks of nature. Another another long stand of duty in the mud before Decue stirred up a monster lying in ambush. A Reacher. And now this. My moustache and sideburns look absolutely dirty and crumpled, and.

"Rutherers ahead!" I set in to ask a series of questions. Tactical stuff. How many Rutherers. Are our traps in place? Where were they.

Vortex and Decue didn't seem to care though. They charged...
Tun turned to stare at me." Not again."
The twin freaks of destruction were at it again. They had waded into every bloodbath with glee, doing things that no self respecting dwarf would ever do. "Chew on this!" was a literal warcry for them.

By the time I reached the staircase, it was almost over. Nomal would be pleased. We had captured another monster in one of our cage. I hear rumours of what they're beeing planned for. Scarifices. Rituals.... magic. Hence, the new directive to capture live creatures....

Well. That's about it. Decue and Vortex just tore them apart. I'm checking the side tunnels to see if there's any more of these monsters left, but it seems that Tun and Decue are chasing the last one left....... SHIT.

5 of them. They just popped out of nowhere. And unlike our previous guests, these monsters were zeds. Indeed, globs of red flesh dripping from their mouths revealed what must have happened. These creeps were hunting the Rutherers. Zed Rutherers eating live ones....... Reminds us of our previous king......

"Hang on Forcelord!"
No fear there. OOF!
I shook my head. Arggh..
I see stars. And claws...
Shield.move. Gotta move. MOVE!

I soon regathered my wits. Being charged at by 2 bony rutherers were not my idea of fun. Or how I imagined military service to be. Vortex was soon at my side, literally blasting away.
Seizing the oppurtinity, I unleashed a quick slash. There! He's hamstrung now... Or bonestrung. Something.
I couldn't really recall what happened next. I knew that we got up close and personal. I remember swinging my arm. Both arms. I'm.... not happy at what happened next. On the ground, the only thing i could do was.... bite. And hold on. I bite a zed. I latched down on bones..........EEEWWWWW

I knew that for all my troubles and effort. I got no kills.

And just as we all headed up, another clarion call from the deep. Bell this time..... An alarm....

It was skeletal bugbats. More creeps. Fun time.

So, I fought my first real monsters. More actually. But I got no kills. Damn.

Couldn't get a date for V day so.... well, a dragon JUST popped up.

It flew all the way into my weapon trap, and is now sitting prettily on my bridge, staring at the open gate. Where a goblin skeleton lies..

So, what's next? Tempt it into the cage trap or kill it? I'm not sure which dwarf will die though if I try the cage trap bit.:D The cage traps are just 1 tile in front of it.

Errr. oops. Anyone up for a savescum?

I managed to slay the dragon. Fortunes of Wealth. Damn, that would be a nice one to keep.

And proving my theory that my dwarves are trying to spend their way out of misery, RIGHT after the dragon died. A strange mood popped up. Stonecrafter.

Oh. And Forcelord slept through it all. Also, in the Tattooed Post, only two dwarves are not "lords". Forcelord, a relatively new recruit and Vortex. ForceLord has no kills(apparently, slaughtering skeletal bugbats don't count). Vortex weapons skill is slightly better than Forcelord, has legendary fighter due to danger room as opposed to Forcelord, and more surprising, he has the MOST number of kills under his belt including a Forgotten Beast. Ditto for this dragon. Vortex went in first, literally crippled the dragon legs after blocking blast of dragonfire and a charge...

Apparently, there's something to be said for being a slacker.

The proper image for the artifact.

Back to the story

Phase II of Operation Cleansing Sweep was triggered by a call for help.

HELP by avenger01t, on Flickr

The fate of Ingod was not to be repeated. The lull between active military operations had allowed the Hall to build multiple traps in the caverns, indeed, despite the shortage in arms, weapons traps were being devoted to cavern protection. And so, help was able to arrive in time.

Unlike the desperate, prolonged battles of phase I, phase II were the results of long, extended patrol duties in the caverns by the Tattooed Posts. A new tatoo was comissioned for the completion of the winter and spring campaign, the forgotten beast shell covered in mud and overlaid by an axe, sword and a hammer.

The campaign did result in promotion of the axedwarf to Axelord and exposed the newer members, Forcelord to actual battle, resulting in an initiation ceremony that took place in the dark corners of the Fort. No runes were made of the event, but Tun and Forcelord were visibly muddied, naked , dirty and walking bowlegged afterwards. Other adminstrative matters soon followed and the military shrank, as unhappy dwarves were discharged from service for being "unfit in the eyes of Armok". The new Fortress Guard were eager to get their hands on weapons though, and the Elves provided.

This was fortunate, for the wood shortage was only mildly relieved by trade and the opening up of the caverns. Routine access to the cavern was still fraught with danger, rescued only by the slow movement of zeds. In one infamous scenario, the legendary mechanic, responsible for the creation of the Inky Braids narrowly escaped death from a skeletal cave croc. He credited his escape to "that hindu romantic flick from them humans" and a sharp nose. Future dwarves are advised to note that the monster is still there even if you can't see it hiding behind the pillar and running around the cavern pillar is not a valid form of hide and seek.

Still, the lands soon taught the dwarves that it too was dangerous. A goblin ambush was rapidly eliminated by cage traps, and the charing Esteemed Lanterns were spoiled of their fun. Spring had another surprise though.

For the first time in 6 months, the dwarven defence burrow alarm was sounded.

"I bring you WEALTH my sweet. Come forth, and receive your blessing!"

(I still very tempted to savescum. Especially since I can't seem to butcher that dargon meat... Oh god... Dragon MEAT!)

Guess response has been lacklustre so far, I'm planning to wind down the thread and probably the fort as its starting to face FPS deathrate. There..... are certain issues going on anyway that might threaten to blow up the fort including unhappiness, infection facing several of my dwarves and an inability to get things done due to labour+organisation problems.

I loved the fort so far and its been the.... wealthiest, most profitable trading, the fort that met my desired theme on every aspect. My chosen civilisation uses thread as a symbol and I got high level clothier+weaver early in the game. Fits my chosen theme of "high model fashion" vs military troubles.

I spend some time making a few last posts bringing the game up to autumn, spell out the history and themes before I stop posting. Thanks everyone for sharing this thread with me.
