Anyone use a WebOS device?

Post by Lonestar »

I briefly played around with a coworkers PalmPre last year, and while I thought it was impressive at the time, my experience was colored by my ownership of a Blackberry Storm, whcih was an unrivaled piece of shit(I've since gotten a Droid X).

I am eyeing getting a Tablet, and I like what I've seen of the HP Touchpad, but my exposure to WebOS has been relatively limited. Can someone who routinely uses Android and/or iOS devices and WebOS devices tell me how the OSs compare? I'm not looking for any deep meaning here, just some impressions.

I rather like iOS, but after using an Android Tablet for a few minutes at Office Depot the other day I'm rather reluctant to consider switching. The input sensitivity just wasn't anywhere close. I'd say don't even consider purchasing it until you've had the chance to try it out first hand.

What android tablet? Only "good" one that came out before the XOOM was the Tab.

Sides I'm talking about WebOS.

It was the viewsonic g running 2.2. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to try out much else, but it's really one of those things you have to try in person.

WebOS has the same problem that killed Symbian. Very few applications, free or otherwise, in contrast to the iOS or Android.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

Yeah sarevok, I know that. I wasn't asking for a rundown in the numbers of applications.

Then what do you want to know about ? Without 3rd party apps there is not much difference at all between these mobile OSes. They are all good, solid performers for everyday needs.

WebOS has an excellent, well-thought-out UI. It's worlds better than Android's, though since Google has poached WebOS' UI/UX designer we'll see how this advantage lasts in the future.

The phone hardware is pretty well built (and comes with the portrait slider layout!) and that hopefully will translate into good build quality for the tablet. There's also some interesting integration between phone and tablet, though since you use Android that might not be that useful.

EDIT: Impressions based on someone else's Palm Pre; I presently use Android 2.3.
