Playstation Network hacked - User data stolen
Those with a PS3 know that for the past week PSN's been down. Sony only recently elects to tell everyone that the hackers have stolen user data, possible credit card information, belonging to 77 million PSN users. Nice communication there, Sony.

Thankfully I've never put CC info on my account but this is still ridiculous.

Yeah, the CC I used on my PSN the one time I used it is long closed. Still, the fact that they're been so hardcore standoffish about it is troubling at the very least. This is really just supercharging my "Ignore Sony products and things made for sony products-o-tron"

Hehe Il admit it made me chuckle... I have a buddy on both PSN and XBL and boy does he trash XBL no matter what... even while this was going on he was complaining about XBL cost, Netflix only on gold, etc. also he is only 1 of 2 people I know that even are on PSN let alone own a PS3.

This has nothing to do with console quality.Collossus wrote:Hehe Il admit it made me chuckle... I get that these guys had beef with Sony, but this is taking a bit too far. Instead of attacking them, they're kind of just ruining it for everyone.
Re: Playstation Network hacked - User data stolen
Haha I got an email just now from Sony telling me my account information was compromised. I forgot I even had an account, I must have set it up on one of my cousins' PS3s at some point. I borrowed a few of them…

Re: Playstation Network hacked - User data stolen
The main thing I can see Sony as having done wrong here was not immediately putting out the word of the POSSIBILITY of users' personal information being compromised, instead of waiting to mention that until it was confirmed that it had happened.

Any ideas on who could had done this? to hack into PSN is a big thing, Crinimal syndicate or some lone hacker? First i heard of this happening to the gaming industry, well on this scale anyway.

Re: Playstation Network hacked - User data stolen
Well Anonymous declared "war" against Sony in the last month over their defense of a certain anti-piracy court case, so most likely someone who is allied to them. (As I understand it the initial take down of PSN was by anonymous, but that was before this most recent thing as I understand it.)

Anonymous denied responsibility for this hack, and they're quick to trumpet about anything they do pull off.

Re: Playstation Network hacked - User data stolen
If i unplugged the ethernet cable from the ps3, does that mean they wont be able to steal my information or is it saved specifically on the sony network?

Re: Playstation Network hacked - User data stolen
It's all since happened anyway, PSN will be back and secured within a couple of days.
If information was to be lost, it happened about two weeks ago. Sony shut down the network entirely to repair it back then.
Supposedly the risk of credit card info being lost was exceedingly negligible, as it was encrypted. You want to be careful with people contacting you for credit card info and websites with which you might be using the same usernames or passwords as your PSN account (best advised to change the passwords at least).

Re: Playstation Network hacked - User data stolen
I expect to be doing password changes, BUT I must admit that I hope that the "old database" story really is true re: SOE, since I didn't start paying for SOE stuff until after that.

SoE made a giant update to the problem on all of their websites and took down all of their services, including online games on the computer.
