Your Minecraft creations...

Post by PeZook »

With the release of the "full" (buggy) version of Minecraft, the terrible and poorly written yet horribly, horribly addictive game about stacking blocks on top of each other, I figured we should show off our creations. I will start.

Image

This is an airship I have constructed over the last week, instead of doing stupid and boring stuff like looking for work (well okay not really INSTEAD but it did consume a lot of time that could've been better spent). Totals about 250k blocks.

It has awesome facilities aboard, including a garden, a factory, secret passageways, hangar (with airplanes) and...uh, okay. Your turn.

Nothing to show here, I'm afraid. I've kind of gone off Minecraft to be honest. I quite enjoyed playing with a server of friends as it gave additional drive to finish stuff, but the people I played with are on Skyrim, so I've not really gone back to it. Also you find that almost anything you think 'ooh, I could do that', has already been done a million times better, which is quite disheartening. I started on a Minas Tirith, but got ridiculously bored with placing wool and then saw an amazing one at full scale and stomped off in a huff!

The best thing I made, and I don't have a pic as it was on someone else's server, was a floating pirate ship with gasbag sails. It was pretty bad ass, probably the finest thing I made on Minecraft. Three decks, crew quarters, captains cabin, I even made a bomb bay, with big bombs made out of obsidian. I think we had a slanty piece mod installed, so it was a bit easier to make things look good. Sadly, I got too damn clever and thought I would make a powder room with real TNT. In a wooden ship. Thinking there was no way I could possibly be stupid enough to set the TNT off, I was stupid enough to set the TNT off and it blew basically the entire back right side of the ship off. I tried damage control by sealing the other powder room off with obsidian all around it to contain it, but then I died and lost my diamond shit and couldn't actually take the damn obsidian wall down to resume work. Grar.

I need to take more screencaps of my stuff, though since I play on a big survival server there're a lot of shared projects and communal works and those tend to far outshine anything I did.

Case in point:

Image

That's the view from my roof hot tub in the suburbs, overlooking the southwest end of Ispawnbul (not Spawnstantinople). A few dozen people worked on various parts of it, so it's got palaces and slums and shops and churches and workshops and restaurants and parks and an embassy and farms and storehouses and and that's the wizard's tower covered in vines there and a sphinx and bars and a museum and a train station and a barracks and mob grinders and a sewer system complete with flush toilets on the surface that lead to the sewers all jam-packed together and on top of each other with twisty alleys.

The most recent render of our map is here though it's a couple weeks out of date.

The old LibArc Minecraft server has been down for months and months now, so most of those creations are long long gone....including my lovely mansion.

Another SMP server I was playing on has been down since 1.8 came out, and the guys couldn't be assed to reupgrade it. I had built a nice little village/town and was working on a small fort and military base for my TNT Cannon research....

no pics though, sadly. We plan on starting a new SMP server in a couple of weeks now though...

I like the idea of Minecraft but the ultra-chunky low-fi voxels are not really doing it for me. Hopefully someone will make a similar pluggable bricks shared VR system, but where the bricks are fairly realistic components. I do like the fact that it's started a trend away from closed server proprietary nastiness like Second Life and towards a more open anyone-can-run-a-server model.

Sadly, Minecraft 1.0 fucked my old saves in the ass, so I can't show my lovely little mansion I built one time. I'm working on building something kewl at the moment. To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm building, but it looks nice and when I am done, I shall post a screenshot.

Have you tried rolling back the game to a previous version? I played around on 1.0 a bit but because my server is still waiting for a stable, recommended Bukkit build, I went back to 1.8.1 so I could keep building on it. There are guides online on how to do it.

Also that's weird that your saves were messed up because my single player map, which I've been using since I got the game way back before lapis and biomes, was still working for 1.0.

It should work still, but you would get wildly different terrain in new chunks.

You may consider me ridiculous for this but I enjoy this sort of thing. I now have two rings of stuff like this on my single player map. Granted, with the server I don't get on it much anymore but sometimes I like ducking it and doing a tour of the cliff districts.

I enjoyed that stuff like that too. I hate the new terrain generation system.

I'm not sure why minecraft killed my saves, either. They do have an "outdated" tag, on them though, though I'm not sure how to make them worked again.

Not as large as some others, but this is what I built on the Spacebattles server.

WARNING: PIC HEAVY

Image

The well in one of my saves. Looks nice with the Inspiration texture pack. Unlike Testificate-made wells, you can't drown in it! Huzzah! You also get to see my hedges.

Image

Behold! A bin that doesn't pose a risk of burning down your house or killing you! (Well, so long as you don't fall into it.)

Image

The patio of my house. If you're wondering why I have fences, it's to keep out hostile mobs. I get sick of having Creepers at my door.

Image

This pic gives you a good look at my house and the farm. Not impressive, but it looks nice with the Inspiration texture pack, just as the well does.

Well, there's my current survival save. I think I'll take screenies of my Creative next. Finished building my new mansion in that.

CHRISTMASTOWN!

We threw this together in the last few hours, plus decorated the city.

I made a north pole (well, a pole to the northern border) but forgot to take a screenshot.

And yes of course there are presents under that tree.
