Which is dumb as hell, because they could have just updated the engine from IL2:1946 and had the modelers/sound guys go nuts making all the assets, and it would sell like hotcakes. There was no need for the complete travesty that all IL2 games have been since.Julhelm wrote:I'd say totally unplayable and blatantly not finished. Saying smaller engines are better is like saying you don't want huge muscles because you wouldn't fit through the door. So what? You can bench 500. Fuck doors. - MadCat360

Well if you look at some of the old Storm of War footage, that's exactly what it was. IMO there is nothing substantially new about the engine - it's basically the 1946 engine with bits and pieces added to it over ~6 years of development. No wonder it ran like an unoptimized piece of shit. I remember my friend demoing the game on his quadcore dual crossfire rig and he got framerates in the single digits over London.

I had issues with it where all my cockpit textures were rainbow-ey and shadows were exploding with glorious blossoms.

I didn't find the original Il-2 any fun so I passed on Cliffs of Dover. Wisely so. I did buy that new Take on Helicopters game and it turned out to run like a turd on my system and I haven't really bothered with it because of that so I guess that kinda counts as a disappointment.
