ATTN: Android peeps who know more than I do

Post by Executor32 »

I have an HP Touchpad, running Android 2.3.7 (CyanogenMod 7 Alpha 3.5, specifically). I would like to connect it to my Windows 7 PC as a Bluetooth PAN client, such that I can get Internet through my PC's LAN connection (my wifi signal's terrible) and have a more reliable connection to use with Splashtop. How exactly can I go about doing this, if it's possible?

Google got me nothing that works (usually suggestions to use PDANet or the like to do the opposite of what I want to do), including one page describing how to connect to a Windows Mobile phone as a PAN client by typing some commands in the terminal emulator, which didn't work (Failed to open control socket: Protocol not supported, it said).

I have root, so if a working method requires some terminal work as superuser, it's not an issue.

You need some form of tethering application. My Galaxy S2 running gingerbread (2.3.4) has that built in via the system settings. Cyanogen might have it built in, or you can just google and download any form of Tethering app.

I think Android Wifi Tether supports Bluetooth.

Wow guys, way to not read the OP at all.

Anyway, have you thought about just buying a cheap USB wireless dongle and setting up a bridged access point from your computer?

Yeah, I'm looking for a reverse tether option, i.e. connect the tablet to the Internet through the PC's Internet connection. Besides that, Android WiFi Tether and the like would be completely useless with the Touchpad anyway, seeing as it's wifi-only and has no data connection to tether. :P

I've thought of that, DA, but I'm flat broke right now so I have to work with what I've got, which is Bluetooth and a six-year-old D-Link DI-524 with a half-broken antenna. :(
