Space Marine voice filter in Soundbooth
I'm putting together a demo reel to audition for a voice acting role in The Lord Inquisitor. I have Adobe Soundbooth, but I've never tried to recreate Space Marine voices before. So far I've stacked the cold drum room reverb filter, a mild metallic vibrato, and heavy chorus onto the recordings, and it's fairly good, but I'm not happy with it. The original Dawn of War Grey Knight sound is what I'm going for. Does anyone have any ideas?

Why would they care about your ability to use sound booth if you are a voice actor

In my experience, one submits their recording unaltered. Yes, that even means no noise reduction, because 1) If you can't record with a mic of good enough quality in a space of good enough acoustics to avoid pops and clicks, you probably shouldn't be applying and 2) They will be doing all the processing for noise reduction themselves so that all the final post-processed lines will have had the same methods of clean-up applied, thus avoiding some sounding more sterile than others as excessive clean-up can sometimes cause.

Because I'm making a demo reel, not submitting lines. He doesn't even have a script yet, much less audition selections for it; he just asked for a general idea of what applicants can do, and much like any other resume I'd rather it be as polished as I can get it. I'm also going to include one of my past work voice acting Freespace mods.
Besides that, it's also a matter of personal interest.

Like the guys said, if you're just going to submit a sample with full reverb, they'll probably think you're applying to be a sound technician. But if you maybe do some both with modulation and without, they should get the point.
What they'll really be looking for is delivery. Give them a sample of Space Marine quotes from the games and books. From a wide variety of situations (training, prayers, battle cries, maybe even some Last Words). Both with and without the modulation.

This is the plan. I've voice acted before; I know the drill. I'm also doing a couple of reels for Imperial Guard and including one of my past work; there's plenty of variety.SAMAS wrote:Like the guys said, if you're just going to submit a sample with full reverb, they'll probably think you're applying to be a sound technician. Though they also don't have a sound technician yet. But I'm not confident I have the expertise to do that job.

Oh good. Because I was talking out the side of my neck and using my own reasoning. Nice to know I figured it correctly.Rogue 9 wrote: This is the plan. I've voice acted before; I know the drill.
