Hi.
I am not much knowledgeable about HDCP, but I have read a little about it.
What I am certain of is that my monitor, an ASUS VW246H, has an HDMI connection and is indicated as supporting HDCP on the product details page on Newegg, the seller I bought it from. My video card, an EVGA GTX 260, only has two DVI ports and a HDTV / S-Video Out TV-out, but it is indicated as being HDCP ready. My computer does not have a BD, but I just bought an internal BD: HP - 12x Internal Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW, which I will be receiving in a few days.
Anyways, I have an HD movie download that I have been playing through iTunes, but recently received a message indicating I do not have HDCP support, and should play in SD.
I know that with my monitor size I am not looking at the right size for 1080p, but shouldn't my system support HDCP? Is the problem with the video card? The lack of internal BD even though the content is just downloaded? Or is there something else I am missing? Hoping some of you guys who know about HDCP and other tech may give me a quick lesson.

Sounds like it's just iTunes being a piece of shit, as usual, though you might try updating your video drivers if they're not already up-to-date (310.90, as of this post). You might also try updating iTunes.
On a PC, HDCP compliance only requires a capable video card and display, since obviously it's used by downloadable media as well as Blu-Ray, so you should be fine given what you have. To double-check, right-click on the desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel, then click 'View HDCP status' in the sidebar on the left. It will tell you whether or not your video card and display are HDCP-capable. You also don't need to use HDMI to be compliant, a DVI is fine too.

Thanks for the reply, and the information.
Yeah, just checked, and the NVIDIA Control Panel says the video card and display are HDCP compliant. Also have my video card and iTunes up to date.
I am new to using iTunes for downloaded movies, but so far I hate it less than Amazon Unbox and that minimalist Vudu player.
Not sure if iTunes is depriving me of the full HD experience (at least as can be experienced on my monitor) (I read that if HDCP compliance is not recognized, you lose most of the quality) but the movie I just finished a moment ago, 13 Assassins, still looked (and sounded) good.

I got this HDCP bullshit with my xbox and my older HD TV and can no longer use it to watch DVD movies. LEGIT DVD movies no less. Had to buy a seperate DVD player.

Also, Windows XP isn't hdcp compliant, so if you have that os, hdcp won't work.
