Opening a skull with a clock radio!

Post by Vanas »

Surgeon Simulator 2013 is my latest budget purchase from the wonderful world of Steam. It tells a heart-rending tale of drug abuse and misery, as manifest in the deep and rich characters of Nigel the Doctor and Bob the patient as they do battle with the horrors of the NHS in the dark depths of the late 80's.

Collected views of the first act are available via the link here:

It's heart-rending, rib-crushing drama.
According to wikipedia, "the Mohorovičić discontinuity is the boundary between the Earth's crust and the mantle."
According to Starbound, it's a problem solvable with enough combat drugs to turn you into the Incredible Hulk.

I think the people that make those games have figured out the concept of lazy let's play fads, as embodied by the likes of Pew Die Pie, and have realised they can make comedically horrible games for no effort and a significant number of people will upload shitty videos to youtube with "hilarious" commentary and make people buy them on steam and never play them.

Surgeon Simulator is part of the tiny breed of simple games that become more complex by offering way to much control. I remember hearing it called the "Press B to breath" genre of complex controls simple design games.

But yes Surgeon Simulator is a nice little cheap two hour distraction. Not to mention the game is nice enough to give you plenty of tools to misuse and keeping the tone firmly tongue in cheek. It's a game kind of like Burnout which is more fun when you fuck up then when you win.

I had fun with SS13, but it was just the version they released for some sort of contest. How different is it compared to the release version?

More surgeries, more tools and that's about it. However they do add alternative environments (IE operating in the back of an ambulance or INNN SPAAACEEE) to make the difficult even more challenging.

Nothing says fun like losing the transplant kidney out the back of the ambulance at fifty miles per hour.

Yeah, it's not going to change the world and it's particularly niche, but it's got some replay value, will happily take up a couple of hours and is enjoyable to mess around in. For about £7, not really a bad deal at all.

Unfortunately, this piece of shit computer can barely even handle the original free version. I have to smash space skulls vicariously through Nerd Cubed.

I refuse to watch Pew Die Pie or any of his imitators on the basis of my eardrums.
