Screen troubles

Post by Eleas »

I've been experiencing some troubles with either my screen, my GPU or my OS during the last few days. The screen keeps flicking off (for a second or two) at seemingly random intervals. I have no spare monitor with DVI-out with which to check whether the screen is the issue or the GPU / OS.

So, given that, what could it be and what should I do to narrow down the problem? OS is Windows 7, the GPU a GeForce GTX 580.

I had a similar problem, the reason being bad connectors in the screen itself. Problem is there is no way to test for it AFAIK except for hooking up a spare.

EDIT: If you hook up a spare DVI or VGA cable you can at least eliminate the cable from being a problem.

The problem seems to have settled for now, but you make a good point. I'll look around for a spare cable.

Check for video driver updates. Check your power saving / screensaver options. If you can't test the hardware then at least you can get possible software issues looked at.

Already checked the video drivers and they're up to date. I've not messed about with power saving and/or screensaver options but it's good advice so I'll look into that; maybe Update did something that broke something.
