I actually like the Xbox controller a lot, I thought it was too big when I first saw it, but it fits in my hands nicely, everything is within easy reach. Some friends were playing Halo, so I got a controller and started trying to play, I got the hang of it in about 10 minutes, but didn't do very good, I noticed the need for sensibility, so I upped sensibility, and proceeded to kick everybody's asses with some good old PC FPS moves, clumsy, but as good as they get with a gamepad.

That said, K+M are quite probably the ultimate game controller, it's easier to use on a wider variety of genres than any other controller.

The Xbox controller is just fine. It's just that people who want to find reasons to dislike something refuse to put any effort into learning how to get used to it. Know what? It originally took me FAR longer to get accustomed to mouse/keyboard (after graduating from arrow keys) than to get used to the Xbox controller (or almost any other game controller, for that matter).

Besides, I use one of the most bizarre keyboard setups I've ever encountered:

CTRL: Forward
ALT: Reverse
Z: Step left
X: Step right
A: Walk
C: Crouch\Swim Down\Climb down ladder
Shift: Jump
Spacebar: Use
D: Swim up\Climb up ladder
Q: Lean left (in, like Deus Ex)\Ready magic (Morrowind)
W: Lean right\Ready weapon (Morrowind)

Everything after that is pretty standard, like R for reload, and F for flashlight...

I prefer using the mouse and 10 key pad (which is actually a 16 key pad). Forward=8 strafe =4 and 6, back =5 and twelve other keys to mess with. The main disadvantage is that I've had to pry the Numlock key out of my keyboard to avoid hitting it in-game. That's only for FPS's of course; in Mechwarrior and stuff like that I use settings that are closer to

That is indeed a messed up controller configuration.
I originally developed it for Descent (which needed more than the WASD thing in order to strafe and rotate in all directions), and it just carried over to other FPS's. And I typically whomp ass with my setup, too...

If you are talking about the Playstation's controller, then I have to disagree. Although it might not be the same to everyone (or even a good portion of gamers), for one thing the sticks requires one to bend their thumbs away from the hand (and not naturally, IMHO). Another is that the sticks don't have enough resistance, and it's too easy to push right out on the sticks. On the other hand, the N64 controller's stick, trigger, shoulder, and C buttons works quite naturally for FPS with a WASD-like setup (Ref. Turok: Rage Wars for just how well it can work).

Still, that's just the opinion of myself and the majority of my gamer friends, and everybody's different... *shrug*

Well, it sure is not just you, I find the Dual Shock to be an awful FPS controller when compared to the N64's, part of what made GE and Turok such great games, you can pull almost PC like moves with that old thing.

Try playing any FPS with the DS, it's just too awkward and clumsy, Xbox and N64 controllers are both a lot better for FPS, with the N64s' being the best, IMO, haven't tried the GC's on a FPS yet.
