Help needed with Disciples:Sacred Lands!!

Anyone who has played the game, is there an easy way to take a capital? I've tried beefing up the stats of a summoned Death and going after the empire's capital only to have their friggin' guardian hero do 250 Hp in a single hit.

As a side note, any players know of good fansites for it?
