And why do you need 100MB for /boot? Kernel image takes less than 1 MB for me, and the whole directorr 4 MB.
You do realize you can use LVM to reallocate your space to something more reasonable, right?

Best Buy had a good deal in the paper today (120GB 7200RPM 8MB cache Maxtor for $80 after rebates), so I went and bought one. After much drive-churning and PMagiks, my partitions are now:
C: - Lain - FAT32 - 30GB - System files, program files, documents
D: - Rakka - NTFS - 60GB - Games, so far. Probably put much of my music there, too.
E: - NieA - NTFS - 120GB - Everything I pulled off the other partitions. It'll be dedicated mostly to anime-related stuff, and I'll use it for storage when I get around to trying my hand at AMV creation.
F: - Plextor PlexWriter 20/10/40-12A

Why is your Windows partition FAT32? It doesn't have any of the permissions features of NTFS, which kind of defeats the entire point of running an NT-based OS.

It's not NTFS because when I originally installed XP, I went with FAT32. I didn't like the fact that I couldn't boot off a floppy and see the drives in case of an emergency. Now that I've got a Knoppix bootable CD that can read NTFS, when I formatted my 60 and 120 gig drives, I went with NTFS (well, it didn't give me any choice in the matter, actually, but I would've gone with it anyway).
And I don't feel like converting my primary drive right now.

My windows partition is going to be FAT32, since I might need (safe) write access from Linux. I don't trust that alpha driver.

There is the recovery console you can sue with the XP CD, you know. You should convert, however, as NTFS is faster, more robust and more secure, though I have no idea if Windows will fix permissions once you convert over.

Like...? If a program isn't running on NTFS something is badly wrong with it.
I've had problems running quite a few older games and assorted applications...that were compatible or at least should have been..there are downsides to ntfs...though I will agree it is superior

How do I partition my hard drive using Win XP Pro?

I never partition drives, unless it's for dual boot purposes (NTFS vs Linux or FAT) or maybe a swap drive. I hate partitioning because I always run out of space in one partition or the other first and then have to put programs in the document partition and vice versa.
If re-partitioning were as easy as defragmenting, I might do it.

You should make a small shared partition that is FAT32 rather than making your entire Windows partition FAT32.
I did, but I'm still worried that I will run out of space. Also , I need some windows files in case I need to run WINE, and I don't know if it requires write access.

Convert to dynamic disks. Linux can also use dynamic disks, since I saw a kernel option for that when recompiling. Don't know how well it works though, and I haven't done it. I'm assuming you are using XP/2k, right? You can't resize FAT32 with dynamic disks though. I don't trust the Linux LDM driver, though I have it compiled into my kernel in case I decide to convert.
I don't think WINE requires write access, but for now it doesn't matter, since I haven't gotten around to formatting the windows partition. I haven't used windows for awhile, so...
