HALO is supposed to be graphically stunning... how?
That monster the Chief is shooting looks like it came right out of Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, chunky polygons and all.
And the only flamethrower I've seen that's worse than that is the one that Neil Manke bashed together for his Half-Life mod They Hunger. The flamethrower in Return to Castle Wolfenstein looks like a proper flamethrower. Hell, the one in GTA3 works properly...

And as for the RTCW flamethrower, you're absolutely right. That was the best reason for playing the game...

If you did you would have noticed that I already said that that pic is from an old build of Halo for the Xbox , from at least a year or so before it was even released. Before Bungie realized the flamethrower they had designed wasn't working right, looked terrible and decided take it out of the game.
And as for the hunter, the pic is from long before all the textures and bump-mapping was finalized. The Hunter in the game when it was released looks like this:

Not the greatest in the world but damn good considering the fact that Bungie was forced to rush to finish the game in a few months thanks to Microsoft's buyout.
Besides like 3rd Impact said, it's the gameplay that makes the game good.
