Escort problem with I-War

Post by The Nomad »

I'm currently playing the mission in which you have to escort a supply convoy to the Mwari system. With my turretfighters it is not too difficult to shoot down the Marauder corvettes and strafe the mines, but once I'm done with it, nightmare begins. I don't think you can do much to prevent the transporter ships from ramming each other and thus mutually inflicting tremendous damage ( which once prematurely ended the mission  ), but when the convoy apparently splits into two parts and you can protect only one part, things get really annoying. Isn't there a tip that would get me out of this deadly trap ?

Or alternatively, what's the fee for this mission ? If this is a ship ( Tachyon-class patcom ? the mail from Indigo mentions that the Mwari are excellent shipbuilders IIRC ) ), then I'll try to achieve this mission whatever it takes ; if this is just a few goods / equipment parts, then too bad for the MCA !

Damn, it's been a while since I've done this mission. I don't recall ever having the transports ram each other to death in it though...that's usually left to megafrieghters. Splitting the convoy into two parts...I don't remember that EVER happening. Did you patch the game before you started playing?

Otherwise, between attacks, let the transports recover using their autorepair systems, so they are at full strength before you set out on the next leg of the trip. Also, consider ditching the T-Fighters. They suck in the unmodded game, especially for the tug. Get some Gatling PBCs (x2 pylon) and Quad-Light PBCs (x2 internal/CS) plus tripack or quadpack launchers loaded with dumbfires and disruptor missiles.

IIRC, yes, it is the Advanced Patcom, arguably the single best ship in the game.

Yep...that mission gets you the lovely patcom...

It is however...one bitch of a mission...if (and this is a big IF) you can get the corvettes cleared and all the mines without taking too much damage..you then have the problem of keeping your ships safe for the duration of a very long journey...first...make sure your copy is patched...that should solve the ramming problem...

Second...get ready to hit your burners alot...you want to be going at 1km/s at all times...just to get the velocity to catch the pirates before they get into range...if they get into range...the freighters will sustain heavy damage but will repair themselves eventually....what you need to do is make sure the freighters survive and then wait till they're fully repaired inbetween formation flying..

Assuming you are quick and patient enough...you can get through it no problem whatsoever

Wait a minute... just HOW many transports are there ? I get at least 6 transports ! I think that there is a big fucking bug : there are 2 identical waypoints in that mission, meaning that I've got to protect two convoys instead of a single one.

BTW I already tried to patch the game, which caused huge problems...
can I patch the game without restarting from the very beginning ?

Get as many other toys as you can before taking on this mission. You will have an easier time of it in the tug. And I second what Hotfoot said; his advice rang true for me.

You bought the game, played it, and never thought of looking for any patches?

Anyway, there should only be three transports. Also, yes, for god's sake, get the patches. You should be able to patch the game without having to restart, but I can't answer that question with absolute certainty.

I did, but the patch brought more problems than it solved ( and I had problems to reinstall the game after that ). With this one, no problems ( except than some item names in the trade and engineering screen tend to disappear - but that's fairly rare ).

Six?!

where the fuck did that come from?! there should be three at most...I think one of the patches changed that mission because too many people complained it was bloody hard to start with..(and it's admittedly bloody hard fixed to get it right first time)

So saying that...if the latest patch will work....I suggest you put it on...it helps with all those bugs you had

gahh...

looks like achieving the Omans' tests will make this escort mission looks like a cakewalk...

God, how the hell can you fly in this minefield and take the container without trying to nail the mines, which will take more than the imparted time ?
Same goes for the Gunstars, there's way too little time !
The third part, well it's just a matter of brainstorming... but if someone has the solution at hand, I wouldn't mind a little help ( too lazy to work seriously on it ).

Besides, where do you have to go to find all 500 pilots for the League fleet ? I already have pilots from Eureka and Firefrost, I'm currently working on Kompira, but is there help in Dagda and Santa Romera ?

Easy: either boost power to guns to increase range and blast the mines from long range (i.e. before the timer starts) or blast past them at full burn to grab their attention, then do a Parias Bootlegger (180, activate LDS manually) then fly back to the container while the mines are still on a wild goose chase.

Gunstars just make you hide behind the rocks. It was the easiest of the Trials for me. Just watch your inertia. Pump all of your power to engines and you should be just fine. There is an official forum, you know, with a nice shiney FAQ. ;)

I forget, actually. Check the FAQ.
