It's good the first time, but every time I started a new game after the first time I found myself wishing I'd made a save game file right after the train ride ended.

I can't rate it very high because it simply lacks replay value.

You could just remember the mapname of the part right after the trainride and type that into the console. Really the entire first part of that game lacks replay value, but that doesn't make it ass-kicking good.
And you may ask yourself, 'Where does that highway go to?'

Force Commander. It was amazing to watch. Pity about the game itself. You have an ISD on orbit sending you stuff, i can accept that, i can even accept the dumb bunker thing but if you have an ISD in orbit why can't you call for bombardment? I'm not talking BDZ just a little indiscriminate turbolaser fire on the enemy camp.

Okay, my favorite intro?

MechWarrior 3. It was fucking awesome. Beats MechWarrior 4's like a bitch. Even without live actors, it seemed far more realistic, and had a good subdued music track to go with the carnage of war. Ground troops running for their lives and getting lasered, vaporized by ER PPC shots, and in one case, stepped on; big fucking robots stomping their way through a burned out city; a shot through abandoned living apartment windows at a Thor stomping by; a Mad Cat's fusion reactor going up and taking an Atlas with it.... 8) And of course, the best line: "Die Clanner!" :)

That, and I love the intro lines and the smoke effect, and the narrator has a voice perfect for them. "It is the 31st Century, and Mankind is once again at War. The battlefields of the future are dominated by huge robotic war machines known as BattleMechs...." It ends and immediately we hear military comm chatter before getting to the good part. :)

MechCommander's intro was not bad, but it lacked the punch.

The three MW2 intros were all cool for their own reasons. Particularly Mercs. "Look on the bright side, kid. You get to keep all the money."

Outside of those? First off, the CGI intro to the PS release of Final Fantasy VI. The rehashed music was cool, Vector looks fucking sweet, and they did a good job with Terra and Kefka. That and the Magitek Armor. Good Magitek Armor! :D

Kingdom Hearts' credits video (not the intro for beginning the game) has an excellent music score to go with the imagery of the game's various events. It's hard to believe a game so heavily-centered on Disney characters could kick that much ass. Chrono Cross also did a good job in that department.

As for video game soundtracks, since last September I've bought the scores to Ace Combat 4, Final Fantasy X, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Kingdom Hearts, and have not been disappointed.

Yeah, that was a pretty sweet open. Shame that the game itself is fucking slow on the PS (AND requires an old PSX memory card so that I can't use the PS2 8MB cards).

Luckily I have the SNES cart and a lovely ROM I can use instead.

I loved all the CnC intros, and the 2 StarCraft ones were pretty nice too.

I'm gonna go way back with mine, so most of you probably won't know what I'm talking about, but the intro to Might and Magic: Darkside of Xeen could be the best I've ever seen. I don't know what it was about it, it's not like anything spectacular happened in it. It just grabbed me and made me want to watch it over and over.

I like Half-Life's intro. Ya, I know, it's not the same as a movie, but the part where you're riding on that tram like it's "just another day at work", when you know something WILL go wrong really builds up suspense, for me at least. Also, it shows off all the (once pretty) graphics and stuff.

The first Starcraft intro is not that great, but Brood War's is terrific.

"Studying Zerg in a lab is one thing; unleashing them upon men is another!"

The whole thing is done very noir-ish and dramatic; Alexei lighting and stamping out the cigar, the battleship pulling out of orbit while the marine stares, DuGalle condenming the colony to annhilation...

Very, very stylish.
