Paying For Napster

Post by Dorsk 81 »

I've just heard that Napster is back as a pay for play site. How many people are going to use it?! I mean you've got another similar thing who's name I won't mention but it begins with a K and ends in a azaa thats free!

I won't use either of those, the free one is full of stuff that begins with V and ends with iruses, among other things. I actually use Overnet (google it, I'm lazy :P), which is free and cooler. I won't go into features, but ya, it's really nice...

Its ok, I think your allowed to use the V word. I use the K Lite (never said it!), but I've never come across any viruses, not that it matters cos I should be getting a new comp soon anyway.

We all know that you can get a hold of media files for free, but we also know that this is against the law. So, in answer to the initial post, I wouldn't bother with a pay service at all, because all the media I like is in the form of tapes purchased between 1980 and 1994, and I don't need any more. (As an aside, music achieved perfection in 1976. Deal with it. ).

As for the rest, You pay for something before you get it. Don't incite me to go Master Control System on your asses. End of line.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

If it provides something else that makes it more reliable or more convienent to use than Kazaa that would make people willing to pay for it, then perhaps many people would use it. I think the big inconvienence might be having to pay. How would that work?

If Napster was reliable and contained the ENTIRE collection of all RIAA members and only charged about $10 a month for unlimited download access, I would gladly join up. Such a system if used effectively could easily benefit the customer and assuming just 20 million people sign up for one year (that is 2.4 billion dollars with almost no real expenses). People would still buy CDs, but now they could also easily find any song they ever wanted for the most part on such a system.

Don't make me hit you with the Home Recording Act of '92 which legalized digital, nonprofit copying.
