DM's who actually charge money

Post by Shrykull »

The first guy I played with was at a community center in the neighboring town, and it cost for a while $35 dollars for a 4 2 and a half hour sessions, yes they do exist, I played with him for a while, don't anymore, his players were pretty much brainwashed, and guess I was a for a while.
I actually tried to find out for a while if it was illegal for him to charge money (someone else had turned him in before, but I wanted to just research it for myself.) since he would be using thier copyrights to make a profit, I had heard it from a few other people, A guy from Wizards of the Coast who used to work at TSR before WOTC assimilated it told me the lawyer said it wasn't, but I heard in a old dragon magazine article TSR went after some people who charged- with lawyers. I did have some good times there, but also some horrendous ones, he could be a real ass sometimes, telling me I'm wasting time, when I was paying him, and one of his rules was priests but not mages could memorize the same spell more than once, his argument was that if they could, they'd always memorize the same direct damage spells.

I'd never pay money for a DM, or a player. That's just wrong, not to mention probably a waste of cash.

I'll admit I demand GameMunchies to run something, but that's not the same. For one thing, we all eat said GameMunchies.

A WhiteWolf LARP I was in charged a small fee... a couple bucks a game, so the StoryTeller could afford the Kinkos fees for copying char sheets, blood/rage/will/etc paper tokens (when using these, rip the paper. Prevented cheating).

But other than Tourneys, I've never ever paid to play.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Well at the gaming group I'm with all we demand is that everyone pitches in for Geek-Fodder and I'll occassionally ask for petrol money as I play taxi for everyone.
