Command & Conquer: Generals

Post by Embracer Of Darkness »

After getting an up-to-date computer I can finally actually play this game... Was just wondering if anyone else here plays it and if we could get some tips and stories flying around (like the Alpha Centauri thread).

I've not managed to play it much yet thanks to time restrictions, and I've only managed to play the skermish mode but I've actually found the GLA to be my favoured side so far, followed closely by the US. I'd put the US first if it wasn't such a cakewalk to play as them.

Get latest patches, of course. I too like GLA quite a bit, US as well. My anti-China tactics are nearly unstoppable, bwaha! If I were you I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the campaign, the meat of the game is skirmish and multiplayer. For skirmishes I tend to prefer the following general skills, in order:

US
Spy drones or F117s
(save point)
Level 2 A10 strike
Level 3 A10 strike or level 1 paratroopers
Fuel-Air Bomb, Level 3 A10/lev1 paratroopers, Paladin or F117 (depending on status of game. If either of those aren't necessary I'll grab repair if I'm doing a land assault or more paratroopers otherwise)

GLA
Any one of them works for start, all depends on overall strategy.
(save)
Level 2 Ambush
Level 3 Ambush
Anthrax, Level 2 Bounty (get this earlier if you're having money problems, and upgrade ambush here instead)

Many people swear by the Chinese for multi player and I am not entirely sure why that is so. The United States has three units in particular that make them a real fighting force. The Humvee is a freaking awesome hit and fade vehicle and when loaded with rocket troops, its just insane. The Crusader is a damned good tank given its cost, speed, armor, and firepower. Also the Commanche when used to take out enemy formations that aren't watching for aircover is another neat little trick.
