Yeah, as I recall, in many singleplayer missions I used to be able to take out the top turbolasers on the bridge tower and then park an A-wing next to the generators after clearing out all the TIES and simply sit there for 10 minutes - I killed at least 5 star destroyers that way, the last time I played.
As said, it may not have been accurate, but it was a lot of fun.
Any one play XWA anymore?

Yeah, it was a good game. And the XWAUP occasionally makes it worth revisiting. The SSD and mon cals you can find are not XWAUP models, but are made by some of the same people. They're not up to XWAUP standards, but they're better than the originals.
Also check out Darksabre's X-Wing Station if you haven't already. Good stuff, and there's an Ultimate Craft Pack in the works that'll be basically the only download you'll ever need to play anything worth playing in XWA.

General Idea? What, you mean flying a ship and shooting enemies while trying to complete a mission makes it a Star Fox clone? Hell, that makes Star Fox a Top Gun clone. Hell, a River Raid clone at that.RogueIce wrote:
*shoots Cal* I played RS. In terms of the general idea behind it, it IS a Star Fox clone. It may be better at it than Star Fox, but it still took the same basic idea as that game. Which I dislike compared to a free-flight sim. That's the point I was trying to make, not in comparing Star Fox to Rogue Squadron.
Rogue Squadron is a free flying game. Star Fox is a hit your button to shoot, and hit this button so your special manuevers gain you points. In no way what so ever are you going to be doing anything but what the game wants you to on Star Fox. The only similarities I find, is that you are always moving.

*Whacks RogueIce over the back of the head* I pointed out Rebel Assault to point out that Graeme Dice is clearly wrong about "Rogue Squadron... predates star fox".RogueIce wrote:As to who pointed out Rebel Assault, I don't remember that much of it, but I don't think the piloting was anywhere near the same (could you actually move the ship at all [albeit in a limited passageway of space], or only aim the cannons?).

I was so confused about what you guys were talking about with Star Fox, and then I realized you meant SF64, which just wasn't as good as the original. It was meant to be a rail shooter, and that's what it was, and damn good at that. Rogue squadron is slightly different, it's a free flight shooter. 1 was fun for a while, and 2 was a good improvement, but it isn't my kinda thing. XWA has, at this point, been done. For any future game I'd like to see something a little more on the sim side, a little more physics oriented. But we've had that thread, repeatedly.
