Historic Sim National Data
Country descriptions will go in this thread. This is the latest edition of the map. Do not discuss here, that will remain in the previous thread.
Any new nations will first post in the first thread until approved, at which point they may come here.
EDIT:
As the sim never managed to get off the ground, I pronounce it officially dead and unsticky this thread to collapse into the bottomless depths. Das vidanya.

Here it is. How is it?
Roman Empire of Hellas

History
To delay the decay which would eventually claim Rome, the Emperor Constantine divided the Empire in two. He took the prosperous Eastern half for himself, while leaving the western half to his nephew.
Then came the barbarian invasions. From the east flowed savages, from the unconquered lands of Germania that group flowed into the Roman lands. The western lands were sundered to the pagans, and the East scarcely held on. In time, the invasions abated, and the East recovered its equilibrium despite the loss of much territory. It's fire had dimmed, and the torches in the West had gone out, seemingly forever. The only other power which remained from the days of Rome was the Mother Church, and it was changing to accomodate the barbarian sensibilities. It softened the dualism of the true faith to appeal to the base instincts of Paganism. The Roman Emperor protested this, and was excommunicated for his trouble. Far from reducing his power, the people of his remaining realm supported him, and he became the leading authority of the "Orthodox" church, which maintained the integrity of the faith.
More developments were to come. over the centuries, the Germans developed some semblence of culture, and swapped the filthy rags of their native paganism for the dead shroud of ancient Roman mythology. Through this and false claims of lineage from the Emperors they claimed the mantle of Rome. This presumption caused many problems in the years to come. The Empire and the Germans fought wars of words over their unenforceable claim to the inheritance of Rome.
In the end, Emperor Ioannes IV recognized the futility of this struggle. The world had changed too much, and the old lands could not be reclaimed. The claims were relinquished, and the Empire found new focus in its Greek heritage. Over time, this fused with the Roman past to make a new Hellene state... and this is now the reality of the present.

The principal exports of the Roman Empire of Hellas are grain, textiles, and finished products (clothing, furniture, weapons, etc). They are largely self-sufficient and import little; the exception to this rule is timber for ship building and other large construction projects. The climate of the Empire does not support trees of a sufficient size to build large warships, so such are typically shipped down rivers from the countries to the north in exchange for quality goods.
Geography by Region
Hellas
The region of the Empire forming the Eastern part of the Gulf of Corfu, Hellas's northern half is defined by the relatively small Balkan mountains which separate it from the steppes. Cereals produce limited yields in this area, and olive trees are widely cultivated. Moving south, the mountains rapidly flatten out into the gently rolling hills and plains of Thrace. This is one of the Empire's two breadbaskets, with a large population of landowning farmers and superior grain production. Fishing out of Constantinopolis is an important industry and produces significant food supplies.
Hellas is the Empire's cultural heart, and it includes the major cities of Athens, Epiros, and Constantinopolis.
Corfu
The large island in the middle of its eponymous gulf. Corfu is rocky and mountainous, and the most common activity in its deep interior is goat-herding. Corfu is home to the Empire's hermits and religious aesthetics, of which the Empire is the world's greatest producer. It is also an important base for fishermen.
The only major city on Corfu is the capitol of Thessaloniki, on the northern tip of the island. It is the Empire's second best port, after Constantinopolis itself.
Assyria
Assyria is the western half of the Empire's mainland possessions. It's northern border is defined by a large river system, and much of the region is flat plains. The earth is excellent for agriculture, and Assyria compares favorably with Thrace in production of cereals. Assyria was for much of Imperial history victim to invasions from the East, and the population is generally tough-minded and strong of body.
The major cities of Assyria include the capitol of Cesaria, near the northern border, and the port of Trabzon, which is the ancestral home of the Royal Family.
Island Districts
Most rocky and act mainly as naval bases. The only city of note is Heraklion, center of the Empire's hold on the southern island of Crete.
Naval Forces
1 First Rate
10 Second Rates
20 Third Rates
50 Frigates
Merchant Marine: About 8,000 vessels. Most are lightly armed and designed for shipping within the Empire. Those designed for longer voyages are better defended.
Land Forces
Varangian Guard
25,000 elite soldiers
Imperial Regiments
150,000 professional soldiers
300,000 men for potential conscription, quality varying by region
(Men from Assyria tend to be toughest. Militia are included in this count as they are not actually in Imperial pay except during the period of service, and their weapons are subsidized by the local authorities)
Provincial Breakdown:
Hellas: 20,000 Varangian Guard, 80,000 Regimentals
Island Districts: 25,000 Regimentals
Assyria: 5,000 Varangian Guard, 45,000 Regimentals
Artillery
About 400 pieces.

Nation: Occvia
Leader: Dersnian III
Total Population: 19 million
Capital: Pien
Geography: Northeastern Occvia is heavily forested, and receives very heavy snow in the winters. Northwestern Occvia is bleak, it is full of rolling hills, it is cold and windy all year long, colder especially during winter. Western Occvia is mountainous, southwestern Occvia is open plains. Central Occvia is where the most of the farming and ranching takes place, it is where Pien is located and is the heart of Occvia.
There are four ancient fortresses in Occvia, each numbering between 30-40 heavy guns, these fortresses are considered the first line of defense against invaders
The first is in the western mountains guarding the major pass
The second is guarding the southwestern plains
The third is in the south
The fourth is in the northeast just outside the forests
Pien is also heavily defended, being totally walled it has 60 heavy cannons and nearly a 100 smaller cannons
There are three major cities
Pien, the capital
Balkhalla, in the southwest plains
Trien, in the northwestern forest
Government: Monarchy
Populace: Fairly large, most people live in the south
Religion: Old monothesistic religion, Dersnian is attempting to phase it out
Army:
Military:
105,000 infantry equiped with muskeets
90,000 infantry equiped with swords/spears/halberds
3,000 infantry with light cannons
1,000 heavy cannons emplaced in fortresses
1,000 calvalry
200,000 total
Notes: The average Occvian living standard is lower then in most other countries and its industrial ability is very limited

Military Jack
Name: Sacrum Romanorum Imperium nationis Germanicae, commonly known to it's inhabitants as the Holy Roman Empire.
Capital: Charlottenburg. A very old city, founded when the Empire was still young. It is a fortress city, the best defended city in the whole Empire, and possibly in the nearer vicinity.
Other major cities: Bersenburg, Lutetia, Peenemünde, Karlsruhe, Ludwigsburg, München, Hamburg (the main sea harbour)
Government: autocratic monarchy. The Empire is divided into several kingdoms, which over the centuries devolved into provinces in all but name. Together the make up the High House.
Populace: 15 million, relative densely populated, with an educated elite. Public schooling is set to educate the populace. The country brought forth great smiths and craftsman.
Economy: Self-sufficient, with a large mining industry located primarily in the northwestern, mountaineous regions. Small fishing industry at the cost, at which also larger amber deposits can be found. It also produces well-renowned gold and silver jewelry, for little it exports. One of its prime export goods are artillery and other metalworks.
National Anthem: Preußens Gloria
Religion: polytheistic Roman religion
Head of State: Kaiser Friedrich V., 30, recently acquired the throne. His chancellor, Wilhelm Grachtenburg leads his Majesty's ruling council.
Short history: Before the Empire could fall to instabilities 500 years ago, an unusual Emperor, Karl VI., managed to reform the system and degrading the kingdoms to mere provinces in all but name in a bloody, but short, war. Today, the "kings" have limited power over their fiefdoms, and have almost nothing to say on the whole.
This reformation allowed the Empire to grow stronger.
Given the country's natural abundant resources it soon managed economic self-sufficiency to a point where it was thought that other nations were irrelevant. This led to a long phase of isolationism, which was performed with a fervour that soon turned to xenophobism and paranoia regarding the Empire's safety. The only nation it still had full contact with was its neighbour to the north, the Kaiserreich, with which it shared some minor cultural and historical events. The contacts to its other neighbours were performed only on a very low level.
Since the demise of the late Emperor Friedrich IV. and the coronation of his son, things have started to change. Even the Empire couldn't ignore the possibilities colonialism, and trade with those colonies, brought. And in the light that other nations were far better suited for those challenging times (and already made the grabs), it was decided to open itself once more to the world in order to jump on the train. The fact that the massive drain on resources the huge military meant might have been another reason.
Army: Due to its isolationist nature, the army is primarily thought of as a defence force. With the added xenophobism and paranoia, the Empire fields one of the largest fielded army in the area, to protect itself. The "aggressive" nature of this defence has brought several skirmishes with neighbouring nations over the years.
Standing professional army of 200,000 men, focused on heavy Cavalry and light infantry. Artillery of 400 cannons. Dense network fortifications at the borders.
Due to the extensive knowledge the Empire has in smithcraft and cannon making, those are formidable cannons, renowned even outside the Empire.
Of those 200,000 men, roughly 100,000 are manning the dense network of outposts, watch posts, mountain fortresses and forts to protect the nations proper.
There also exists the Imperial regiment of elite Husars, numbering 5000 men, stationed in the capital.
In the case of war, the number can be increased as up to 350,000 men, at horrendous costs for the Empire.
Navy: The navy is a still slightly unbalanced mix of lighter units and newly constructed larger Ships of the Line, leaning on knowledge from the Kaiserreich to its north. Generally, the Holy Empire tends to build heavier and larger ships, and unfortunately slower ones.
2 1st rates, 1 104-gun flag ship, one divisional flag ship of 98 guns.
2 2nd rate squadron flag ships, 90 guns
21 3rd rates, 10 80-gun ships, 11 64-guns
15 frigates, 54 guns
6000 merchant ships, very fast ships, roughly 2 guns each.

Eronwal
Population: 9 Million
Capital: Erastor
Government: Monarchy
Religion: Slightly polytheistic, one major God with a few minor gods to assist.
Major Cities: Erastor (capital city), Malagos (Fortress city), Arwan, Veldren (coast city)
Ruler: King Halen Relant III, 37. Son, Graimin Relant, 19. Graimin is next in line for kingship, and should be handed the crown within months.
History: The Relant family was one of the first that joined with the Aragon after their first victory. Their knights were always the ones pressing the charge and whenever Aragon said they had enough land, It was the Relant family that pushed them on to conquer more, using underhanded tactics and even once killing one of the royal family under the guise of Barbarians to insight further war. When all was said and done, the Relant family carved out a large portion of the southern part of the new nation to call home. It had suffered heavy casualties during the war, but unlike other war torn familys it did not turn inward, it decided that the best way to recover was to trade with other nations.
The Relant family were always the troublemakers, refusing to burn their libraries, and even when they did under order of the church it was rumored that they removed most of the books first, they were also the last area to close down open trade with other nations under order of the church, though the black market thrived in the lower portion of the kingdom, with the Relant's not paying it any real heed.
In 1690, they'd had enough and created an alliance with other southern families, with a few quick strikes Eronwal liberated itself from Aragon, the few struggles that did break out caused further casualties, killing the leader of the Relant family who had wished to go on to take over all of Aragon. His son quickly grabbed the reins, and he was far more cautious, the expansion of Eronwal stopped almost immediately and fortification began. As soon as it was assured that Aragon would ignore the small nation the boy king, Halen Relant the first, re-openned libraries filled with books that had never been burned and open trade began again.
Fearing invasion still, the Eronwal citizenry researched into weaponry, making advances in leaps and bounds, with the help of trade, until they reached the level of the rest of the world. In fact, it wasn't far after that Eronwal weaponry actually surpassed that of most of the rest of the world. For some unknown reason, no guns, even exact replicas, can match the quality of the firearms of the Eronwal, as such rumors abound of a magical spell which is the key component behind their legendary craftsmanship. Most nations have at least some Eronwal guns, a few even have a few Eronwal cannons mounted on fortifications and ships. Aragon, has none of these things as Eronwal refuses to even attempt to even speak with their parent nation.
Military: The Eronwal fields one of the best trained, best armed armies in the known world, with Aragon training techniques, Eronwal weaponry, and a zealousness, which is just as great as Aragon's religious zealousness, to defend their country it is no surprise.
Cavalry are not in heavy use, unlike Aragon, what is in heavy use is the cannon. Eronwals cannons are simply the lightest, most durable, and most accurate cannons on the market, with the same being able to be said for their smaller arms. They have 180 artillary pieces for the field and an obsene number in use in the fortifications which run along Eronwal's border. The fortification cannons, of course, make the field cannons look like mere muskets in comparison.
The infantry carries the best Eronwal has to offer and makes good use of it in defending their nation. Most of the army is infantry.
The navy of Eronwal is rather 2nd rate at the moment as their main concern is neither gaining land nor destroying other navys, the only jb of the navy is to defend Eronwal's massive amount of merchant ships and to protect the likewise large seafront Eronwal has.
Fortresses cover the border of Eronwal. They are giant structures, the larger ones having as many as 40 large cannons. The walls are thick and the most important fortresses have a thin layer of metal covering more vital areas of the walls. The fortress city of Malagos puts the other fortresses to shame, with 65 large cannons and a metal layer covering most of the outside wall, this fortress nearly bankrupted the Eronwal government to renovate and enlarge. The capital city itself is as strongly fortified as Malagos.
Army: Currently at peace, as such 50,000 are currently at arms. Under war time that number jumps to 100,000 and under dire circumstance local militias can be called upon to bring that number up to 130,000 troops. Though every citizen of Eronwal can and will fight tooth and nail against invaders.
Of the 100,000 troops only 20,000 are Cavalry.
Eronwal has 200 artillary pieces for use in the battlefield.
Naval Forces:
Fleet:
3 2nd rate
5 3rd rate
20 4th rate (Used for convoys)
30 5th rate (Used for convoys)
3,000 merchant ships
Fortresses: Cover the landscape of Eronwal, there are a dozen major fortresses, most of them, including Malagos, are situated in the north.
For geography, see map. (Which I am beginning work on now.)

Name: The Koronan Empire, the Empire of the Seas
Population: 11 million
Government: effectively an unlimited Monarchy, parliament is largely rubber stamp Current Sovereign: King Edward VI
Capital: Essex
Other major cities:Suffolk, Devonshire, Exeter, Northumberland, Durban, Norfolk
Religion: Monotheistic
History Koronan has continually been a top world power for some 200 years. It was some time before that in which the nation sought to gain territory upon the continent. But after more then fifty years of conflict the troops return from the foreign shores, not defeated so much as exhausted. A period of isolation followed, until a naval force from France attempted to launch an invasion. It was defeated but alerted the leadership of Koronan to the need for a naval fleet second to none. Once an enemy landed the battle was quite likely lost in any case. The new age of colonization provided and opportunity and the colonist of Koronan appropriated a vast stretch of territory in the new world, bringing riches of silver, gold, and in far great quantities timber. The timber supported a vast new fleet, the fleet the nation had always needed and that now roams the seas.
Economy
Koronan imports some food and raw materials particularly timber. The silver and gold lodes f the nations colonies have contributed much to the nations wealth and its ability to afford a large battle fleet. In the export market the nation ships great quantities of finished goods to its colonies and several continental nations.
The Royal Navy
The supreme naval arm in the world, equipped with excellent warships of considerable numbers, especially among the most minor types, which are necessary for colonial policing and protecting the nations vast merchant fleet against attack. The fleet also maintains a large number of bombs for shore bombardment and is thought to be planning an expedition against the pirate's coasts.
While lacking a decisive advantage in numbers over its enemies The Royal Navy posses several less obvious ones. Its seafaring traditions are unmatched and provide excellent crews while its ships are always built of oak, while those of the continental powers must all to often build there's of pine and fir leading to inferior ships in strength and hull lives.

2 mortar-12 gun-17
The Army
Very much the secondary service of the military. While it possesses some excellent fortifications particularly around the naval dockyards the Army has only a minimal force on active duty. The army has just 60,000 men in its active strength and little in the way of cavalry beyond a few Dragoon regiments. This force is partly reinforced by militias who might mobilize in case of an invasion. This includes several colonial units of Dwarven marksmen. The Army has 100 mobile field guns and a modest siege train of twelve forty eight pounders and several heavy mortars. Every major city and several smaller ones have modern fortifications with special attention paid to naval dockyards. A Number of heavy coastal batteries have been and mount 24, 36 and a few 48 pounder guns on fortress mounts.
In the event of war a more formidable army might be recruited but even an absolute monarchy cannot spend unlimited amounts of money on its military. Over half the force serves as marines and garrisons.
The merchant fleet operates some 15000 vessels.

Aragon
Population: 18 Million
Capital: Castille
Government: Absolute Monarchy
Religion: Monotheistic
Major Cities: Castille (Capital); Sevilla, Toledo, Salamanca, Lisbon, Malaga, Grenada
History: After the fall of the Roman Empire the citizens of Castille found themselves beset by barbarian tribes, one of which conquered all but the northwestern most provinces of the land. A movement known as the Reconquista began with the Battle of Navarre when three petty kingdoms united by marriage and treaty marched forth with heavy cavalry and defeated the Barbarian Horde at Navarre. This began the slow gradual war to regain their lost territories. fueled by faith and the finest knights in the world, Aragon was born in blood and travail. The three petty kingdoms were finally united at the Battle of Castille, when the Capital was retaken in a massive battle that lasted four days. Aragon was named after the most powerful of the three kingdoms and the other two were quickly absorbed into the Aragonese family structure. A king was crowned for the united nation at the Cathedral of Castille in 1432.
The battles raged for another century until the final barbarian warlord was driven into the sea at the Battle of Grenada 1528. The kingdom of Aragon was finally united and the rebuilding of a nation began. However a movement grew among the nobles of Aragon who had suffered great casualties at the hands of the heathen barbarians to embrace the traditional values that had seen them to victory.
Libraries were burned, many manuscripts destroyed and contact with the outside world slowly deteriorated to the point where Aragon’s sole contact was the Mother Church. Tradition and religious fundamentalism drove the nascent kingdom into a period akin to a Dark Age.
This condition continued until 1690 when the more robust and cosmopolitan kingdoms to the west decided to break away from the suffocating hold of the Aragonese and in a series of swift engagements, defeated the local lords and declared independence. The Royal line at the time was experiencing difficulties as the king was old and senile and the prince was too young to seize the throne. Without a steadfast leader the lords either attacked the breakaway nation piecemeal, leading to defeats or ignored them for their own agendas.
By the time a new King ascended, the breakaway nation was well entrenched, having built serious fortifications on the border with Aragon. The king decided to wait and the breakaway nation was for all intents and purposes ignored. However, through their influence with the Mother Church they managed to have all the leadership excommunicated.
However the revolution of the westernmost provinces prompted what was known as the “Renovacion.” which began a growing interest in the outside world again as well as a movement to modernize their world and kingdom. The Renovacion movement was slow and faltered often depending on the relative interests of the king, however the newest monarch, King Pedro Alphonso Rodriguez de la Plata was the first prince to study abroad and brought back with him a burning desire to rebuild and modernize his nation.
Military: The Aragonese were until very recently built around the Knight as the backbone of their military with peasant levies supplemented by mercenaries to round out their infantry. King Pedro has begun introducing modern infantry weapons and artillery into his military and has reorganized the support structure as well. No longer will the knight be the heart of the military but still an important aspect of it.
Knights have been transformed into hussars who are deadly with pistol and muskets but are especially deadly when they close to saber range. The fine horses that are raised in the central plains of the country coupled with the cavalry training that all young nobles must undergo dating back to the dawn of the kingdom, many noblemen are more comfortable on horseback than on their two feet, the Aragonese cavalry is perhaps the finest in the world, certainly from the aspect of almost fanatical morale.
Infantry are experiencing a renaissance as muskets are being produced at an astronomical rate by the forges of Sevilla and Salamanca. It is the king’s desire to see a musket in every infantryman’s hands within several years, during the last inspection of the infantry battalions the winter before, there were still several regiments where peasants where wielding spears and simpler medieval style weapons, some that had been handed down from generation to generation.
Artillery virtually unknown in the land until recently is the King’s personal obsession. Cannon foundries are springing up along the industrial centers of Sevilla, Pomplona, Salamanca and Toledo. The demand for cannon is vastly greater than supply, as the King has ordered that all noblemen of certain rank must not only provide a certain number of infantry but they must also provide a number of cannons. Those that do not are taxed. The recent launching of the 100 gun Espirito de la Reconquista and her twin 85 gun escorts Santo Sebastian and El Cid Campiador nearly bankrupted the nation’s coffers, brought the shipwrights of Lisbon to their upper limits in shipbuilding and virtually robbed the land armies from any new cannon for an entire season.
Now the cannon smiths are concentrating their efforts in supplying the hungry armies with their artillery as ship hulls are laid, waiting for the cannons to give them teeth.
Men under arms:
95,000 infantry (currently 70% have access to the most modern weapons)
40,000 Cavalry (50% is heavy cavalry directly descended from knights of old, 30% are light cavalry and 20% are scouts or irregulars, mostly unlanded knights or poor knights who have no money to upgrade to the gunpowder weapons)
300 artillery pieces.
Naval Forces:
(1) 100 gun warship/troop carrier El Espirito de la Reconquista
(2) 85 gun warships: Santo Sebastian, El Cid Campiador
(25) 64 gun ships (25% of these are projected for the end of the year)
(50) Frigates (10% of these frigates are armed with ancient cannons from medieval era)
350 Merchant vessels and growing as the Aragonese strive to forge ties with the far-flung reaches of the world.
If anyone has any suggestions please feel free everything is open to revision.

Das Kaiserreich von Deutschland
Population: 10 million
Religion: Roman 70% Deist 20% Monotheist 10%
Literacy rate: 80%(children are usually taught at least how to rea and write in German, but the wealthier city dwellers may speak and be literate in several.)
Government: What do you think? The Kaiserreich is a Constitutional Monarchy the title of Kaiser is inherited, but it is not absolute. Elected officials in the form of a house of commons check the Kaiser. They have power with a ¾ vote to reverse an executive decision
Kaiser: Wilhelm Bismark
National Flag
Navy Jack
Nation anthem: Edelweiss
The constitution of the Keiserreich is set up to protect the people from potential abuses by the lawmaking bodies. It protects basic freedom of expression, and property rights, as well as outlines a fair due process system.]
Religion: Religion is polytheistic, based on the Roman religion.
Geography: Das Kaiserreich is a stretch of land with a rocky coastline, dominated by well-sheltered harbors, and coastal fortresses. The interior is mostly flat oak and pine forests, and grasslands peppered with rivers, which have been cultivated for the arming of grain, and cattle. Sheep, and goats are raised in the moutain range that runs on the southern boarder, these are rich in mineral wealth.
Capitol City: Bismark
Other Major Port Cities: Berlin Stuttgart, Heidelberg, Hannover, Dresden
On the Southern Boarder: Freiberg, Frankfurt
Army: The army, though not as strong as the navy is a force to be reckoned with. Each soldier is trained in and provided with, a flintlock musket with bayonet, and is trained in the basics of fencing, and may acquire their own sword should they so choose.
Grenadiers are also in use, and are used to storm fortresses, and Cuirassiers and lancers form the backbone of the cavalry.
Navy: The navy, seeing as how the Kaiserreich has a massive coastline, is one of the strongest in the oceans. They use a balanced approach to their navy, and in addition to their massive Ships of the Line, Frigates are also used. These smaller faster ships escort the hulking warships, and provide fire support outside of formation. Kaiserreich marines are well armed, and make use of and are trained with, boarding pikes, bayonets, muskets, pistols and a variety of swords, Those specialized in it, are capable of firing a ships cannon faster than their naval counterparts, giving them an advantage in fire rate.
Culture and personality: Though it has a wealth of natural resources and is economically self-sufficient, the Kaiserreich is very mercantile, and is home to a massive merchant fleet and is beginning to colonize primitive tribes, and less developed nations to use as a market outlet for steel, wool, and other commodities
Due to this, its seaports, and entire country even are very open and are not nearly as insular as its southern neighbor. The military tradition is just as strong, though it leans more towards the maritime side of things. The navy is the pride of the country.
Their openness however, does not make them push overs. Castles and fortifications are located in strategic locations around the country, and the coastal fortresses keep pirates, and hostile powers from being able to take the only safe harbors on the rocky coast.
The climate is mild both in summer and winter, the temperature kept more constant by warm curents from the equator.
Military Assets of the Kaiserreich.
Navy:
First rates: 5 ships
Second Rates: 15.
Third rates: The backbone of my fleets... 80 ships
Frigates and light patrol ships(Frigates, scooners, armed courrier ships, pirate interceptors, small ships with btween 30 and 50 guns): 75
Merchant vessels are heavily armed of course, and the largest have 70 guns. There are roughly 10000 merchant vessels that fly the Kaiserreichs flag.
Army:
The Army of the Kaiserreich, consist of 15 legions, each containing 5000 men.
The army is divided into centuri, each of 100 men, 10 of which are mounted heavy cavalry. The rest are men armed with musket, bayonet, sword, and a few grenades.
Each legion carries with it, 10 cannons.
Fortifications:
Fortfications are up-to date coastal fortresses. They are comprized of stone walls, shaped like a star. The walls are sloped(but not enough to allow climbers to ger up easily), and are surrounded by earthen ramparts to protect from the worst of cannon fire.(at least I thnk this is how fortresses were designed in this time period)

Peon #1-Ruhn
The small nation of Rhun once held sway over a considerable trading empire in the Mediterranean and the far east but wars and the rising sea power of other powers have reduced it to a shadow of its former self and military power. Its capital of Trento posse's modern fortifications but the rest of the country remains lightly protected. The population totals one point five million.
The Army of Rhun fields 8000 men with twenty field guns and a number more mounted on its main fortress. The navy has two modern 74's, four 50 gun's and three 38 gun frigates along with a handful of lesser vessels.
Peon #2-Palatinate
Palatinate is a lose confederation of several lesser city-states. Infighting among these has kept the nation weak on the seas though fairly strong in troops and the main cities of Nabulus, Al Khalil, Janin and Airha each are well fortified. The population totals five million.
The combined armies of the confederation can field approximately sixty thousand men plus large local militias. While boosting one hundred guns however the force is generally poorly equipped. Mercenary Calvary is hired from time to time but little of it is found in the regular armies. The fleet can boost nothing-larger then four 32-gun frigates and a number of gun brigs, which spend much of their time laid up in-between feuds.

A map of the Republic can be found here.
Population: 3 million
History
Originally, the Republic of Austs was divided between several cities that had won independence after the fall of the Roman Empire. Towns gradually grew up around them and natural trade routes formed around the area. Eventually, the four cities dominated the region. They were:
-Prust, the smallest, but most militarized; closest to the barbarian steppes, it spent much of it's time fighting off barbarian incursions and developed a highly efficient warrior culture
-Osst, the city and richest city, it was hampered by feuding guild-based political structure and constant insurrectionis near it's coastal territories.
-Aust, the oldest city and the one from which the region took it's name, maintained it's independence only by virtue of a vigorious defense of the rivers that bordered it.
-Wien, formerly the provincial capital, was reduced to nothing more than a smaller version of Osst after the fall of the Empire.
This arrangement remained virtually unchanged until modern times. Even with the invention of firearms, no one city could gain the upperhand. Ossts and Prust would battle over the rich northern farmlands, with Osst usually gaining the upper hand by virtue of it's coastal towns. Prust would respond by seizing the northern forests, cutting off the towns' supply of lumber. The towns would rise in revolt against Osst, which would be forced to open up the farmlands and divert troops to put down the rebellions.
Meanwhile, Wien would launch waves of futile attacks across the rivers into Aust. Occasionally, it would attempt to strike at Osst, but at this opportunity Aust would push up forces to the north, only to be soundly drummed by Wien and pushed back behind the rivers. Both Wien and Aust sustained themselves through limited trading with Prust and Osst(respectively) and massive importation from the surrounding countries.
Finally, about a hundred years ago, a brilliant Pruster general named Alrick de Lyr signed a ceasefire with Osst, which was hardpressed by both Aust and Wien. Marching north with all his strength, Lyr smashed a barbarian gathering and retook all the territory that had been lost to them in the last hundred and fifty years.
His northern borders secure, he marched on a besieged Osst and defeated the Wieniese and Austian troops gathered there. When the grateful defenders of Osst opened their gates to him and a select entourage, he brought them down completely with cannon and marched triumphiantly inside with all his army.
Cunning negotians with outside powers brought sanctions against Wien and Aust. Deprived of succor and militarily outclassed, both cities surrendered to Lyr. Rather than make Prust the capital of a new empire, Lyr chose Osst as the seat of the new government, and created the system that people of Austs(collectively known as 'the Aus') use today.
The Government
The Republic is divided into 20 districts, each ruled by district-governors appointed by the current chief executive(styled 'The Prince de Austs). Each city has jurisdiction over 5 districts, which are in turn ruled by provincial-governors(also appointed by the Prince de Austs). The governors have a wide range of powers, as well as a wide variety of checks on those powers, differing from district to district and province to province.
The legislative body of the Republic is the Chamber of Aus. There are 20 Aus-princes, corresponding to districts, which sit in the Chamber. The Aus-princes are the wealthieist individuals in the district; districts can be redrawn at the whim of the Prince de Austs, but only with the approval of the district-governors. Also, Austs' extremely oppressive funeral-taxes prevent too much wealth from being hereditary.
Officially, the Chamber has three purposes. Every fifteen years, it elects a Prince de Austs from among their number. A prince may serve unlimited fifteen-year terms, but no term may be consecutive. Exceptions are made in the case of war; a prince can then rule until the war's conclusion.
The second power of the Chamber is that it can accept treaties, even against the will of the Price de Austs. It's third power is the ability to regulate trade and commerce with and within the Republic.
Of course, the Chamber wields considerable influence, regardless of it's official duties.
The Economy
Austs' mines produce mostly base minerals, which are traded with the outside world. It has extremely rich farmlands to the north which are sufficient to sustain the (small) populace. It's coastal towns feed themselves on fish.
Austs, however, is a rabid defender of free-trade; because the government spends so much money on the military, and is prohibited from passing heavy business taxes by lobbies in the Chamber, it attempts to make up the difference through sheer volume. Restrictive tariffs are banned in the Republic, harsh laws break up monopolies, and most trade is performed by independent mercantiles inside the Republic that pay small operating taxes to the government.
The Military
The standing military is controlled by the government, which is responsible for funding and training it. Lyr impressed upon his successors the need for an excellant military; the Aus army, though small, is thoroughly drilled and disciplined.
65,000 standing soldiers:
35,000 muskets
20,000 pikes
10,000 light infantry(pistols + sabers)
85 heavy cannon
120 light cannon
Each province also furnishes an additional 8,000 militiamen, which drill for two weeks every other month. A rotating force of militiamen guards the Republic's fortifications in peacetime
The navy of Austs is much, much smaller than the army, do to little need.

The Balkan NPC:
(the half bordering Pablo)
Kingdom of Arberia
A former region of the Roman Empire, it was siezed and resettled by barbarians during the dark ages, who subsequently adopted Orthodox monotheism. They were reconquered by the Empire in 1410. Nationalist sentiment was rife, however, and the relatively poor and rebellious province was a net drain on the Empire. During a widespread reform of the Empire in 1450, the Arberians were designated the Despotate of Durres, an autonamous state within the Empire. In 1514 they were granted full independence and their rulers were given recognition as Kings by Hellas, though the Emperor remains their suzerain. Relations between the two nations are excellent (the REH is commonly referred to as "Our Elder Brother" by Arberians).
The current population of Arberia is 1.5 million. Arberia has an army of 15,000 men and possesses 20 field cannon. It's troops are trained and equipped primarily by Hellas, and can be considered adequate for defense. It has a small navy composed of a handful of elderly Hellene fifth-rates.
(the western half)
Serbo-Croatia
A divided realm of small, poor, and weak princedoms, evenly split between Heterodox and Orthodox.
The Cheese eat surrender Monkey French states
Brittany (North West)
One of the several small states, which France has declined too since the retreat of Koronan forces more then two centuries ago. The capital of Rennes is located inland and posses modest fortifications. The population totals five million with an army of seventeen thousand and twenty guns. Brittany with two seacoasts does posses a modest navy with five fifty guns, two frigates and a number of sloops and brigs.
Normandy (North East)
Once a mighty power Normandy has fallen to a tiny kingdom wedged between the coast and Wittenberg. With three million people, eight thousand troop, ten guns and no navy of note the nation can do little but man the fortress around its capital at Caen.
Eastern France (East)
One of two states currently at war for control of Paris and the title of France. Eastern France currently controls the city, eight million people, sixty thousand troops, seventy guns and no navy. The countryside has been devastated in many areas.
Western France (West)
The other French state battling for Paris and with a 'temporary" capital at Tours. This state is currently plotting to launch another assault on the fortified city of Paris, backed by seven million people, an army of fifty five thousand and eighty guns including several heavy siege weapons.

The Poles first victory was at the Roman town-city of Pariannas. Returning with strength five fold the Poles were to fight an guerrilla war near the forests of the time. After the West fell the East also faced the end and at this the Bolochanovias, a Latvian part Roman rebelled and pushed the Eastern Romans back to Hellas. After meeting a Polish warlord named Polian the Strong Latvia-Polia was formed. After hundreds of years of fighting barbarians they carved out a broad, large land.
Then after the last of the Bolochanovias had past on the Romervanas came. This was Latvia-Polia's only and true royal family. Everything was done in the fuedal system but after the two hundreds years of bliss came dark times. In the 267th year of reign when Ivan IV often called "The Old Man" had died. He was famed for the kindly matter of his ways in running such a violent nation. A new king would arrive to set things right.
The young Botivinnik took the throne and attacked his enemies swiftly destroying many fringe nations and introducing the concept of a navy. After falling behind in the times Botivinnik "The Great True King" modernised the nation and used cavalry en masse more than ever. After his reign ending in the 292nd year of Romervanas the family quickly extinguished.
Then came bloody civil wars and there were too many leaders too mention. Then, a hierarchy of military leaders arose. They called themselves of the Order of the Pattosia which are all cavalrymen. The other powers were the Order of Magicians. The Magician from Danzig is not an magician a few are. They command the western lands and most of the military border force. The Kingdom of Württemberg
Landesflagge of the Kingdom of Württemberg
Coat of Arms of the Kingdom of Württemberg
Royal Standard of the King of Württemberg
Kriegsflagge of the Kingdom of Württemberg
Naval Ensign of the Kingdom of Württemberg
History
The province of Württemberg was formed centuries after the breakup
of the Roman Empire, when one of the local barbarian chieftains took
the town of Ulm and proclaimed himself King of the lands. He was one
of the more competent cheiftains, and was thus able to defend and expand
upon his claims, passing the keys of the newly created Kingdom to his
children.
Over several centuries, the Kingdom of Württemberg has grown slowly
larger, changing from a land-locked state consisting of only a few square
miles of forest to a vast state that has a coastline and an actual honest-to-god
navy, although some in the kingdom view the latest King's maritime strategy as
a dangerous indulgence of Royal Sovereignity over the opposition of the Council
of Landsraats.
Population and Demographics
Total Population
17 million
Language
German, with a smattering of English and other foreign languages
in the seaports and primary trading centres.
Religion
60% Protestant (northern part of Kingdom)
40% Catholic (southern part of Kingdom)
Literacy Rate
76%
Economy
The Kingdom mostly focuses on shipping lumber from it's vast forests in
the southern part of the kingdom to other States and Empires in exchange
for hard currency or other goods, with preference towards hard currency.
However, several large cities in the north are growing rapidly and producing
more and more manufactured goods each year, and this is leading to
friction between the southern landstraat representatives and the northern
landstraat representatives
Naval Forces
The Kingdom despite it's vast natural resources, does not build excessively large

The Kingdom despite it's vast natural resources, does not build excessively large
ships. Most of the Navy's capital ships are 40+ gun Frigates built to help protect
the coastline against pirates, invaders, and other miscreants as well as to protect
Württemberg's oversea's ports from invasions, etc. A large number of old converted
merchantmen make up the bulk of the Navy's ships.
