Morrowind question

Post by Shinova »

Right now, I've arrived in Balmora for the first time and have reported to Caius Cosades and all that.

Now, should I join one of the guilds or should I go completely freelance?

You can do whatever you want. However, if you want to complete the primary storyline, go see Caius relatively soon. After that, you can do whatever you want. Joining the guilds does give you something of an advantage for each one, but it's all up to you.

Don't really get started on the main quest until you're level 5. Anything less and you'll get stomped by human adversaries. Join a few giulds that match your character class and get some exercise on your skills.

Join the Fighter's Guild. Their early quests tend to be messenger-boy missions, but they're all but guaranteed not to be too tough. The Mage's Guild quests can get really difficult really quick, though, for low-level persons.

I just sort of wandered around for awhile exploring stuff with my first character. Eventually I joined the Legion, got to the top of that, picked up a view side ventures on the way and owned you-know-who as the you-know-what. Then I went nuts on the plugins and got this ubercastle with tons of NPC guards and minions and planted so many trees everywhere with this "Ring of Growth" that my P4 2.54 GHz w/ GeForce4 Ti4200 could no longer sustain more than 15 FPS. That's a lot of trees.

My suggestion would be to avoid the fighters guild( until they're cleansed)...they're actually part of the 'bad' guys...go and join the thieves guild...you don't need to be remotely skilled to do their quests and they're pretty damn profitable.

I would reccomend though, that you join the mages guild...make a few very pointless level spells that cost one mana for each of the schools...find a corner...and practice until your happy with your skill level..

the fighting abilities are a bit harder....once you've a few levels under your belt...then you can get off and do the quests...you get some kick ass uniques working the main quest...

My character (Dunmer Assassin) is currently:

Master Thief of the Thieves Guild
Grandmaster of the Morag Tong
House Father of Great House Hlaalu
Conjurer of the Mages Guild
Operative in the Blades
Clanfriend of the Aslander Tribes

Currently, I'm looking to clean my plate of House Hlaalu before I go further in the main quest. Hlaalu is a great house for thieves and like-minded characters and there is plenty of quests to keep you very busy and quite wealthy.

Wait, in a game you can actually make your own castle? SWEEET!!! Do bad guys attack, or is it just for fun?

With the power of all the plugins and the editor anything is possible. You could script your own attack, yeah.

I second the recommendations for the Thieves and Mages Guild.

For the Mages Guild, you can easily get a bunch of Soul Gems after completeing the first or second quest.

For the Thieves Guild, the first quest would normally yield you two extra diamonds, plus a potion of invisibility of which you could use to help liberate an enchanted sword from the eastern guard tower.

By the way, if you aren't using alchemy you are wasting a powerful and profitable resource.

Hell yeah....you can easily turn ingrediants that cost nothing into a profit of 200 gold a potion if you utilize Caldera...when you get the chance...also stop by Ald- Ruhn.. and pick up telekenesis...it will earn you an absolute fortune since you can move the object out of sight of anyone else and then pick it up without risk of getting caught

I have a big scary Red-guard fighter character, but he spends roughly half his game time in a lab (in my secret base of operations - gotta love those mods) making concotions from what he's found.

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but now I'm thinking of joining the Temple.

Should I do that?

Do what you feel. I was more of a fan of the Legion, because the end of that quest structure was very beneficial to a melee character, but the genius of Morrowind is its multiple facets.

Not that I know of.

I don't know how far along you are in the main quest, and I don't want to reveal too much. Suffice to say you may have Temple problems...

There are plenty of cool plugins that expand "factions". I highly recommend the latest Dracandros's Voice plugin; it adds all sorts of things like the ability to command lower-ranking NPCs, and I believe it lets you wear Indoril as Patriarch.

Argh, I accidentally sold a book I was supposed to bring to the Wise Woman in the North and now I don't get credit for beating the game even though I killed You-Know-Who and smashed the Heart.

I keep hearing about how great Alchemy is, but how do you use it? I am manualless so if there are obvious instructions in there that is my problem.

It's simple. Minimum - get a mortar and pestle, and two ingredients that share an effect. Use the mortar and pestle in your inventory, and choose the ingredients. You can choose up to four.

Of course, there's three other pieces of equipment that help you, the retort (helps positive effects), Alembic (decreases negative), and the calcaitator (helps both), with the expected quality bonuses to the potion.

As for the super-stat alchemy, I never tried it myself but I think it involves getting tons of ingredients with the fortify intelligence effect, mixing them and drinking them right after each success, and repeating for some time. Then, you do that with whatever else you like.
