So you know i'm putting linux and some more ram on an old p 144mhz box. Should it work in a home wireless network i'll besetting up when i get it, along with my winxp box?

I think there's a wireless ethernet driver available in the kernel. I don't use wireless, so ask phong.

Since it's not a laptop or anything, shouldn't you use wired ethernet? It's faster and cheaper.

I have a network with a win98 computer upstairs and my computer running Linux/W2K down here, connected with a crossover cable without router/switch/hub, with the ethernet card driver (8139too) compiled as a module, for sharing a dialup internet connection from Win98 computer (should be using Linux computer for sharing, but sister demands control over dialup). Works fine, though I have to put a script in /etc/ppp/ip-up.d to change routing tables when I dial out from the linux computer. Unfortunately, Windows 98 is too stupid to allow switching connection from modem to ethernet card when using ICS. I hate windows- too inflexible- you only get what MS gives you.

The router i'm getting is combo wired wireless so i'll wire the comp i'm getting in october and do wireless for the laptop i'm getting l8r.

Some, but not all, wireless cards will work under Linux.
