I posted this in the GCW forum over at the Galaxies site. There are a few players here so I thought you all might be interested in this:

This thread will likely be buried beneath dozens of "n3rf 4t-stz!!!11", but I feel I should at least try to educate the masses. Now, the whole "fight like guerillas" and "we can't, the game does not allow it" argument has been debated to some length but I believe the primary problem is that the Rebels spouting the latter do not know how to utilize proper guerilla tactics. As such, I intend to outline a brief guide here to Rebels and Imperials alike on how to fight effectively as a guerilla.
First of all, we must establish the purpose of guerilla warfare. Too many people think its about slaughtering the other side, while being untouchable themselves. This is not so.
- Cause damage.
This one's a no-brainer: you're there to cause damage. Kill faction pets. Deplete their items' durability. Wound their CH pets.
- Confuse and delay.
As a guerilla fighter, it is to your advantage, and indeed your entire faction's advantage, to confuse and delay your enemy. Come out of nowhere, hit hard, and disappear. Leave them wondering why you're here, what you're doing, and where you came from. Delay them, too. Head them off on the way to a mission, slow down their influx of faction points. Get them riled up, so they pull out all their pets and search for you, trying to kill you, meanwhile you're off harassing others and effectively wasting the hunter's time.
- Hamper their ability to gain faction points.
Kill them while they're doing missions. Prevent them from gaining any more points, and take some away at the same time with a quick deathblow. Put up minefields in mission-heavy areas.
- Keep their attention away from the "front".
By accomplishing the above, you're likely to get a fair amount of attention from the nearby town or outpost. If you're notorious enough, entire groups might set out to hunt you down - groups that could otherwise be causing damage to your faction-mates back home.
So keep in mind that this is not about gaining faction points or leveling the enemy's war materiel. Its about being a pain in the ass. Well, how do you go about doing all this? It takes patience, first and foremost. It takes levelheadedness. It takes a keen and clever mind. You must be cautious; never take on more than you can handle. If they come out with 2 guys and 6 high-power pets, run your ass off. Don't try to pick off big boys if you can't handle what they're packing. Run away and fight another day.
"But there's radar! They can see me! Whaaa!" Yeah, so you better get used to it. I've snuck up on so many clueless Rebels its not even funny. Most people don't keep a very good eye on their radars when they're off doing routine missions. Charge out of nowhere and hit 'em before they can even respond properly. Its easier than you might think. I've hit quite a few Rebels who immediately panic, and just start trying to run - they never get the chance to calm down and remember to tell their two pets to attack.
Which brings me to my next point - its a good idea to bring along a pet or two if you're not a hardcore PvP-centered character. Being a marksman/brawler/smuggler/artisan/medic/scout/entertainer myself, I'm not a dominant player in a lot of straight-up battles. Guerilla warfare isn't about fighting fair, its quite the contrary, be as dirty as can be. Every trick in the book is your friend. So to all you honor-obsessed Rebels, I guess your SOL. Welcome to the Rebel Alliance, wake up and smell the blue milk, it ain't your Old Republic anymore.
And probably most importantly, keep moving! A stationary guerilla is a dead guerilla. Don't sit and camp the same mission for 20 minutes waiting for the same guy to come back and try to do it, he'll probably be ready for you next time. Keep moving. Always. Gotta go AFK? Need to heal some wounds? Retreat at least a kilometer away from the base/town/city you're terrorizing. On the opposite side of the spectrum, avoid getting closer to it than 300m... you don't want to run into a full group.
Speaking of groups, keep your own small. Even by myself with 3 Stormtroopers out, I found it difficult to keep moving effectively and remain undetected. At the most, you should only be with one other player. The larger your group is, the slower you move and the larger of a target you are.
Basic tactics - hit your enemy when he's weak. This often goes back to the bit about fighting dirty. Hit them while they're wounded, while they're fighting the mission NPCs, while they're healing wounds in a camp.
I will add to this as I see necessary. I leave you with the following quote:
"All warfare is based on deception." - Sun Tzu
Take it how you will.

I'll have to send this over to the Dark Guard. Some of my fellow members have already started raiding Rebel bases that are too close to our settlements and resources.
