I need to de-fragment my computer; but when I was told how, this person didn't realize the commands on his computer didn't match mine. leaving it impossible for me to do it the same way.

I have Windows ME; how do I defragment> What are all the possible combinations?

Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

I have ME, and that's how it works for mine.

Thank you. That's not at all how I was told it was done. But after checking, that's how it works on ME.

Right click on the drive in question-> properties-> tools-> Big button starting with "defrag"

That works on windows 95 onwards.

I'm fairly sure it doesnt work on windows 3.11, but you cant have everything

If memory serves, it doesn't. Matter of fact, I don't think anything comes up other than disk space used/unused. Its been so long since I've used Win3.x that I don't remember....and I'm not installing it on a machine just to find out.

The only way todefrag in Win 3.x was to create a shortcut to the MS-DOS defragmenter.

But then, you were better off running it in DOS anyway.

Running DOS-mode utilities in Windows 3.11 was bad mojo.
